Description

On Sunday, the annual 'Open House' 2022 at IIT Madras Centre For Innovation (CFI) displayed over 60 creative tech prototypes created by students. After a two-year hiatus, the event returned to a physical format, showcasing autonomous cars, rockets, and the institute's first-ever electric formula car, built entirely by the Student Team 'Raftar.'

Furthermore, for the first time this year, this edition was made available to a restricted audience via a Metaverse platform dubbed 'Gather Town' to expose their inventions to other stakeholders who were not physically there. Over 1,500 individuals attended in person, including over 100 notable businesspeople and IIT Madras alumni, with another 500 participating remotely via 'Gather Town.' Prof V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, remarked after the event that the CFI activity not only gives a forum for young innovators to present their products, but it also acts as a tremendous source of inspiration for other young students to develop. On this occasion, he unveiled the new CFI website: https://cfi.iitm.ac.in/. Numerous projects were hosted, including CFI Team Abhiyaan's autonomous vehicle called the 'Bolt,' Team Abhyuday's rocket, Team Avishkar's Hyperloop, a 'Sports Science and Analytics' Project done in collaboration with Sports Science Centre of Excellence, IIT Madras, a Bird Diverter Project done in collaboration with Wildlife Institute Of India, and Blockchain Technology projects.

Numerous industry-proposed ideas, such as the Job Aggregator project with TMI Group and the Dental Implant Project, will also be showcased during the event. Prof Nilesh Vasa, Dean (Students), IIT Madras, Prof Prabhu Rajagopal, faculty advisor, CFI-IIT Madras, Prof Asokan Thondiyath, faculty advisor, CFI-IIT Madras, Dhanveerraj J M, student executive head, CFI-IIT Madras, and Nitish Gupta, Co-Curricular Affairs Secretary, IIT Madras all spoke.
