Description

Overview

The Kerala administration will take swift action to introduce the 5G system to the state and to accelerate progress in the service industry. Another significant statement was the creation of IT infrastructure.

Other significant announcements

Corridors of Information Technology

Along with the current NH 66, four IT corridors will be built parallel to it as part of the state's IT decentralisation efforts. The corridors would have four lanes: Koratty-Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram Technopark phase-III-Kollam, Kozhikode-Kannur, and Ernakulam-Cherthala. An IT facility with a total area of 5,00,000 square feet will be built in Kollam to support the growth of the IT corridor.

IT Park Construction

Kannur will be the site of a new IT park. Satellite IT parks would be established on 15-25 acres of land acquired at premium rates along the proposed corridor with easy access from Kozhikode, Ernakulam, and Technopark Phase III through NH 66. Furthermore, the newly acquired property will be utilised to construct 20 small parks ranging in size from 50,000 to 2 lakh square feet. A total of Rs 1000 crore has been sanctioned from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board's (KIIFB) land purchase pool for the acquisition of land for the establishment of IT parks in Kannur, Kollam, and other regions. As part of the development of critical infrastructure facilities for the IT industry, Techno Park, Techno city, Info Park, and many more IT centres will be enlarged. Additionally, Rs 100 crore would be granted for the project through KIIFB in order to create the essential infrastructural facilities. As the notion of working close to home gains traction, Rs 50 crore has been set aside for this purpose. Kochi Info Park has a budget allocation of Rs 35 crore, whereas Techno Park in Thiruvananthapuram has a fund allocation of Rs 26 crore.
