Punjab Election Results 2022

Charanjit Singh Channi, the outgoing Punjab Chief Minister, presented his resignation to the Punjab Governor earlier today in Chandigarh. He stated that the Governor has instructed him and the cabinet to remain in office till the new government is inaugurated in. Channi stated that he recognises the mandate of the people and went on to say, "We will always be available to help the people of Punjab. We shall continue to perform our job and will be among them. I propose that the future government continue the public welfare programmes and programmes that we implemented during the previous 111 days." Charanjit Singh Channi was defeated by 37558 votes in Bhadaur and 7942 votes in Chamkaur Sahib in the just concluded Punjab Assembly Elections 2022. The reigning Congress party was unable to quell the tremendous AAP tsunami that swept throughout the state, with the AAP storming to victory with 92 seats in the 117-member assembly, while Congress was reduced to 18 seats and the Akali Dal was practically obliterated with only three seats. Sukhbir Singh Badal, President of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), stated following his party does worst-ever election performance, "We respect the judgement of the people. We'll convene a meeting to discuss the findings. In Punjab, we would back the Aam Aadmi Party."

2022 Punjab Election Results

The Aam Aadmi Party, led by CM Bhagwant Mann, won a historic win in the Punjab Elections 2022. The AAP is the state's first non-Congress and non-Akali Dal party to reign. The AAP won 92 seats in the 117-member legislature. Bhagwant Mann won by a large majority of 58206 votes from the Dhuri seat. In contrast, a majority of top Punjab figures, including former Punjab Chairman Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal, SAD chief Sukhbir Badal, and senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia, were defeated.
