Description

Overview

The Telangana government committed Rs 17,700 crore for the Dalit Bandhu plan in its state budget for the fiscal year 2022-23. The state administration announced this initiative in 2021. This initiative was originally introduced in Vasalamarri village in Turkapally mandal in August 2021, and it was then expanded to the Huzurabad assembly constituency.

Concerning the scheme

It is envisioned as a social welfare programme for Dalit households. The project would stimulate Dalit entrepreneurship in the state by offering a direct benefit transfer of Rs 10 lakh per family to anyone who does not have a bank guarantee to start a business. This plan provides free financial support from the government and is not a loan of any kind, thus there is no need for payback. In this transaction, there will be no intermediaries. Beneficiaries who are qualified will have the funds deposited into their bank accounts.

Dalita Rakshana Nidhi's Bio

A Dalita Rakshana Nidhi (Protection Fund) has been set up to assist Dalit Bandhu recipients in the event of unanticipated situations, therefore preventing financial hardship.

Where will the plan be put in place?

This programme will be implemented in the Huzurabad Assembly segment, as well as four more mandals: Tirumalagiri, Chintakani, Charagonda, and Nizamsagar, as well as 118 assembly constituencies. The plan will benefit 11,800 people, with 100 persons from each of the 118 assembly constituencies participating.

The government intends to transmit funds to around 40,000 families through Direct Benefit Transfer by the end of March this year, at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore. The government intends to deliver assistance to two lakh people by next year.

The scheme has sparked debate

This initiative has created controversy, with the opposition arguing that it was developed to entice Dalit votes because it requires every Dalit household to have a realistic income-generating strategy in order to receive the subsidies. The opposition parties also claim that the recipients are chosen in a secretive manner.
