Highlights

On March 2, a C-17 departing from Hindon near Delhi for Romania to bring back Indian people from Ukraine. The aeroplane can transport approximately 300 people. This decision was made when Prime Minister Modi requested that the IAF join Operation Ganga. 26 planes are expected to rescue Indian residents during the following three days. Evacuation flights will be operated from airports in Bucharest, Budapest, Poland, and the Slovak Republic. Prior to the IAF's involvement, only private Indian carriers evacuated Indians from Romania and Hungary. As Ukraine's airspace has been closed, the Indian government has started ferrying Indian citizens to the Romanian border. Evacuated Indians are being transported from Romania to Bucharest, which is a nine-hour trip from the border.  From there, Indians board an Air India flight to India.

Humanitarian aid from India to Ukraine

In other news, India has dispatched humanitarian goods and medical supplies to Ukraine. A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has delivered 100 tents and 2,500 blankets to the Indian Air Force's Hindon installation. From there, help was given to Romania, Ukraine's neighbouring country. More aircraft transporting humanitarian supplies from Delhi to Poland took off.

Ukraine's Humanitarian Crisis

Ukraine is facing a massive humanitarian disaster as a result of Russian soldiers' full-fledged invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. So far, 300 civilians, including 14 children, have been slain, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Russian military have surrounded two vital Ukrainian seaports. The Russian Defense Ministry proclaimed the seizure of Kherson. However, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's advisor subsequently answered that the Ukrainian side was still defending Kherson. Russia shelled the Izyum region of Kharkiv overnight, killing eight people, including two children.
