Description

Important Facts

The peculiar shape, geometry, and local context of the glass globules all point to them being anorthositic impact glasses.

The study suggests that because it is the first discovery of transparent and macroscopic glass globules on the Moon, similar globules should be common over the lunar highland. It also presents excellent sampling targets for revealing the Moon's early impact history.

The cube-like object was spotted on the horizon, around 80 metres away from its original location. It sparked additional curiosity about what it may be.

Yutu, also known as the "Jade Rabbit" in Chinese, will travel 80 metres in two to three lunar days.

Why was Glass found on the moon?

On the Moon, glass is prevalent, when silicate material is heated to a high temperature, glass develops. On the Moon, silicate material and high temperatures are abundant. In the lunar past, there was a lot of volcanism, which resulted in the development of volcanic glass. Furthermore, strikes from smaller objects, like as meteorites, cause great heat, resulting in the production of glass.

Yutu's Bio

Yutu-2 is a robotic lunar rover that is part of CNSA's Chang'e 4 mission to the Moon. It became live on December 7, 2018. On December 12, 2018, the rover entered lunar orbit before making its maiden soft landing on the Moon's far side on January 3, 2019. It is now the most long-lived lunar rover. It is the first lunar rover to travel to the Moon's far side. It is active in the Von Karman Crater in the South Pole-Aitken Basin. It had travelled about 1,000 metres around the Moon's surface as of January 2022.

National Space Administration of China (CNSA)

CNSA is the Chinese government agency in charge of international space cooperation and civil space management. It arranges or leads overseas exchanges and collaboration in the aerospace industry. It is part of the 'Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.' Its headquarters are in Beijing's Haidian District.
