What is the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister?

The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister is a non-permanent, non-constitutional, and independent organisation formed to provide economic advice to the Government of India, specifically the Prime Minister.

The EAC's role is to provide an unbiased perspective on the country's important economic challenges to the Government of India. The Prime Minister is advised by the council on economic matters such as microfinance, inflation, and industrial production.

Since India's independence, the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister has been formed multiple times. Prime Minister Modi reactivated the council on September 25, 2017, and Bibek Debroy now serves as Chairman.
