Bappi Da, as he was affectionately known, ruled the music industry for several years, particularly in the late 1970s and early 1980s, delivering back-to-back hits such as I am a Disco Dancer, Bambai se aaya mera dost, Taaki Taaki, Tamma Tamma, Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re, Chalte Chalte, Pag Ghoongroo, Naino Main Sapna, Hum Disco Dancer, Sharaabi, Shola Aur Shabnam, Adventures of Tarzan, Satyamev Jayate, Commando, Saaheb, Himmatwala, Aaj Ke Shahenshah, Thanedaar, Sailaab, Namak Halaal, and Numbri Aadmi were among the films for which he created music. His first Bollywood hit score was for Aamir Khan's father Tahir Hussain's film Zakhmee.
He popularised synthesised disco music in Indian cinema and had huge box office hits in Bengali films such as Aamar Tumi, Amar Sangee, Amar Prem, Mandira, Asha O Bhalobasha, Badnam, Priya, and Raktelekha. He sung some of the most famous songs in the previous decade, including Ooh La La for The Dirty Picture, Tamma Tamma for Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Tune Maari Entriyaan for Gunday, and most recently Areey Pyar Kar Le for Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. Bhankas, from the 2020 film Baaghi 3, was his most recent single.
Political Career of Bappi Lahiri
On January 31, 2014, Bappi Lahiri joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. He ran in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the West Bengal constituency of Sarerampur, but lost to TMC candidate Kalyan Banerjee.
