Description

Seven Indian army men were killed in an avalanche in Arunachal Pradesh on February 6, 2022. These soldiers were members of the patrol team. "Search and Rescue" efforts have been begun by the Indian Army.

Avalanches

It is fairly unusual for Indian Army men to become trapped in avalanches. A similar mishap happened in May 2020. Two army men from the snow removal squad were killed in an avalanche in Sikkim. Avalanches claimed the lives of six Indian Army men in 2020.

The Siachen Glacier

Avalanches on the Siachen glacier killed six army men in 2019. The Siachen glacier – Saltoro ridge, Ladakh, and certain sections of the China border are all off-limits. Thousands of troops and 35 commanders have died at the Siachen glacier – Saltoro ridge since 1984.

Threats

Pakistan and China are both upgrading their military forces. Threats have recently intensified along the LOC and LAC. To counter this, the Indian Army has boosted patrolling in the region, particularly since Pangong Tso and the repeal of Article 370.

New strategies have been implemented

The Indian Army has sent a huge number of troops to the border with China. After 1962, such numbers were no longer used. Typically, soldiers patrol and return to their bases. They are living in trenches and overhanging shelters this year. So yet, no person has remained in these locations.

The key obstacles that Indian soldiers encounter in these boundaries include inadequate road infrastructure, a higher risk of injury, a lack of drinking water, cold-related disorders, avalanches, and a lack of medical services. Temperatures in this area can drop below -5 degrees Celsius. This raises the likelihood of hypothermia.

Acclimatization

Acclimatization is synonymous with adaption. The first and most pressing concern is a lack of oxygen. The decrease level might be as high as 65%. To live under these conditions, army men go through three stages of training over the course of 14 days. The first stage consists of six days of training at 12,000 feet, four days at 15,000 feet, and four days at higher elevations.
