Ms Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit has been named Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has announced the appointment of its first female Vice-Chancellor (VC). According to the Ministry of Education, Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, Professor at Savitribai Phule Pune University, has been selected as the new JNU VC.
Today, February 7, 2022, the announcement was made. "Her appointment is for a term of five years," a top Ministry of Education addressed.
Ms Pandit, 59, was a professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at Savitribai Phule Pune University.
Prof Pandit earned her MPhil and PhD from JNU. She began her teaching career at Goa University in 1988. In 1993, she enrolled in Pune University.
"President Ram Nath Kovind, who is a Visitor to the University, has accepted Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit's nomination as JNU Vice Chancellor for a period of five years," a senior MoE official said.
JNU welcomed Prof Pandit on his appointment as Vice-Chancellor.
Ms Pandit has held administrative positions at a number of academic institutions. She has also served on the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), and as a Visitor's nominee to many central universities. She has mentored 29 PhD students during the course of her career.
M Jagadesh Kumar, who was acting as JNU's temporary vice chancellor after his five-year tenure expired last year, was named as the University Grants Commission's (UGC) chairperson last week.
