Millets will be included in the Indian government's midday meal programme. This is being done to improve children's nutrition, the Ministry of Education made the statement. It will be executed under the PM POSHAN initiative.
What is the strategy?
State governments and union territories have been requested by the Indian government to include millets in their Mid- Day meal programmes. This comprises bajra, ragi, and jowar, among others. Minerals, vitamins, proteins, and antioxidants abound in these foods.
They enhance the children's nutritional outcomes. The government is taking steps to lower the country's malnutrition levels.
Once a week, millets will be introduced. Cooking competitions will also be held among the cooks and assistants. This is done to make millet dishes more popular.
A series of short videos will be produced, the value of millets will be explained in these films.
Odisha, Karnataka, and Telangana are said to have the finest practises in the country, according to the NITI Aayog. Their methods will be shared with other states.
What is the current status of the midday meal programme?
The programme provides three different sorts of meals, rice, wheat, and coarse grains are the three. State administrations and union territories are in charge of allocating food grains. The Department of Food and Public Distribution approves the food grain allotment.
The food grains are distributed by the Department of School Education. The national government is responsible for the cost of the food grains provided.
