The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has requested that the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC India) begin "news channel ratings" immediately.
The Ministry of Key Facts has requested that news channel viewing statistics be made public, as well as the last three months' data in monthly format.
According to the government, viewing figures for news and specialist genres would be reported using a "four week rolling average concept."
When and why were the ratings put on hold?
In October 2020, BARC India ceased publishing news channel TV ratings data. It was halted in the midst of a Mumbai police inquiry into viewership data tampering.
Process Revisions
BARC's processes, supervision systems, and protocols have all been updated.
It has changed its governance structure in accordance with the recommendations of the TRP committee and the TRAI.
It has also begun the process of reconstituting its board of directors and technical committee in order to induct independent members.
In addition, BARC has established a permanent oversight committee and updated data access standards.
