Sanyam Bharadwaj, CBSE's controller of examinations, stated that the date sheets for minor subjects will be sent directly to the schools because those exams will be conducted by the schools but using the board's question papers. Minor subject exams begin on November 16 for students in Class 12 and on November 17 for students in Class 10Mr Bharadwaj also stated that the board will most likely assign their own schools as exam centres, which will be sanitised before exams are held and the CBSE has decided to hold two-term board exams for the class of 2021-22. Term 2 exams are set to take place in March and April of 2022.

With the winter season in mind, the board has decided to start papers at 11:30 a.m. rather than 10:30 a.m and everyone will have 20 minutes to read the question papers while only objective-type questions will be included in Term 1 papers with each paper will be 90 minutes in length. The CBSE has classified board exam subjects into two categories: minor and major and exams for minor papers will be held first, followed by exams for major papers while the schools will complete practical exams, internal assessments, and project work worth 50% of the total marks before the end of term 1 exams, according to the CBSE. At the end of term 1 exams, the CBSE will not place candidates in the "pass," "compartment," or "essential repeat" categories and the final result will be announced only after the term 2 exams are completed.
