Since 1994, World Teachers' Day has been observed. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNICEF) established World Teachers' Day in 1994 to recognize the role of teachers in the development of each individual. The day commemorates the anniversary of the 1966 International Labor Organization (ILO) /United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recommendation concerning the status of the teachers. The recommendation concerning the status of the teachers was adopted in 1997 in order to complement the 1966 recommendation.
