In conjunction with the Mehta Family Foundation (MFF) in the United States, the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee has developed the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. This school will focus on training new and skilled data scientists and artificial intelligence professionals. The institution will offer Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degree programmes, with the first cohort of Bachelor's degree students expected to begin classes in September 2022. The institution will offer specialised Data Science and Artificial Intelligence training and certification.

Prof Ajit K. Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, and Mr Rahul Mehta, Chief Executive Officer, Mehta Family Foundation, USA, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 27 in the presence of Prof K. Vijay Raghavan, Principal Scientific Advisor, Government of India, and Prof Sandeep Verma, Secretary, Science and Engineering Research.

At the IIT Roorkee campus, the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence will be housed in a new dedicated facility. Prof Ananth Grama, Prof Shankar Subramanium, and Prof Rajesh Gupta, all renowned AI professors, will be creating the school's curriculum, faculty recruiting, and monitoring, as well as suggesting new research ideas to Indian students. To make this project a success, these specialists will also help MFF's student grants and faculty exchange programmes.

While he addresses the dignitaries present at the event, Mr Rahul Mehta, Chief Executive Office, Mehta Family Foundation, USA, said, “AI-driven technologies are rapidly transforming our world. Academic collaborations like this one between International faculty and IIT Roorkee will produce individuals poised to address such ongoing global challenges as climate change, resource sustainability, and security.”

The Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence will also have goals such as supporting the Indian government's make-in-india and atma nirbhar initiatives by seeding entrepreneurship and startups in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, as well as creating information and knowledge sharing resource centres.
