Anant Chaturdashi 2021 is a significant day for worshipping Lord Vishnu. According to Hindu belief, his Ananta form existed before the creation of the universe, and he was the one who gave birth to Lord Brahma from a lotus blooming out of his navel. Ananta means "eternal" or "endless" in Sanskrit. This auspicious day is observed every year on the Chaturthi tithi of Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha. Anant Chaturdashi will be observed on September 19, 2021, this year.
Devotees fast for a day and tie the sacred thread 'Anant Sutra' to seek blessings for a prosperous and peaceful life on this day. Ananta Chaturdashi is also significant because Lord Ganesha bids farewell to Earth on this day, and Lord Ganesha devotees perform visarjan puja.
Significance
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu existed in the Ananta form, before the creation of the universe, and he was the only one who produced Lord Brahma. As a result, he's also known as Anant Padmanabhaswamy. In addition, in Thiruvananthapuram (the city of Lord Ananta), Kerala, there is a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu called Anant Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
Ananta Chaturdashi is also important to the Jain community, and the day is known as Anant Chaudas. It is the final day of the 10-day Paryushana festival, which they observe this month. According to Jain belief, Lord Vasupriya—the 12th Tirthankara—attained Nirvana on this day, a day after Anant Chudas is observed as Kshamavani.
