The Assam government has decided to remove the 75% quota for state board students from city colleges. The state introduced a quota for students graduating from schools belonging to the Assam State Council, the Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), but withdrew it after parent and student protests. Although there will be a government council reservation for admission to rural colleges, college places in urban areas will be open to all boarding students.
Statement by Assam Minister of Education Ranoj Pegu
Assam's Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said in a statement: “A 75% seat reservation for the Assam Board of Governors would not be appropriate in an urban setting. In urban settings, students from all boards will have to compete for a spot in degree programs. It will be based solely on their merits.”
Education officials pointed out that most of the institutions that make up councils outside Assam, such as the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Private Council for India Matriculation Examinations (CISCE), are located in urban areas.
State quota reservation
A 75:25 statewide reservation quota will distract a large number of worthy students from undergraduate programs, as most of the institutions associated with CBSE and various councils mainly exist in urban areas. While many academics have pushed for the abolition of the state council quota, many CBSE and CISCE students have expressed concern about this clause.
Assam's Higher Secondary Education Council, AHSEC, announced today, July 31, 2021, the 12th grade score of Assam HS 2021. According to reports, 98.93% of students have passed the exam. Exam 12 was canceled this year due to a spike in COVID-19 cases. Board exams were to be held from May 11 to June 14, 2021. The 12th HS 2021 Assam result will be prepared based on the evaluation criteria. According to the criteria, 50% will be from the "Top 3" from HSLC and 40% from the internal rating in the streams not related to practical art, science and trade.
This year, the Board did not publish any toppers or merit lists for this year as no exams were held. Students wishing to improve their performance can participate in additional exams administered by the board. The exam will take place until September 15, 2021, if the situation is favorable. If not, an optional exam will take place at a later date.
