Description
Hariyali Teej is primarily observed in the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand during the month of Sawan, which brings with it several auspicious festivals that are celebrated by the Hindu community all over the country. Hariyali Teej is celebrated on August 11 with colorful bangles, songs, Mehendi, swings, and, of course, food. Hariyali Teej is one of three teejs observed by married women during the Sawan months. Hartalika Teej and Kajari Teej are the other two.
About Hariyali Teej
In 2021, Hariyali Teej was celebrated on August 11. The Tritiya Tithi began at 6.05 p.m. on August 10 and it ended at 4.53 p.m. on August 11. Hariyali Teej is a Hindu festival dedicated to Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. The auspicious festival occurs on Shukla Paksha Tritiya, two days before Nag Panchami. Hariyali Teej represents the union of Lord Shiva and Parvati, and married women pray to the Goddess for marital bliss and happiness.
During Teej, married women visit their parents' homes, wearing new clothes and bangles and singing teej songs, Katha or Shiv and Parvati folklore. In exchange, the woman's parents give her the 'Sindhara.' It's a gift basket with henna, homemade sweets, bangles, and other goodies. Traditional Hariyali Teej food, like any other Indian festival, is well-known for items such as ghevar. Laddoo, shakkar para, balushahi, and jalebi are some of the other popular sweets and foods served during Teej.
