Description
On August 7, 2021, Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian athlete to win individual gold at the Olympic Games. He is the second Indian to win an individual gold medal, following Abhinav Bindra, who won gold in the Men's 10m air rifle shooting event at the 2008 Olympic Games.
With a throw of 87.58m, Neeraj Chopra won India's first gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, finishing first in the table. This is a historic accomplishment because it is the 22-year-old's first-ever Olympic Games. Neeraj Chopra's gold medal brings India's medal tally at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 to seven, the country's highest-ever medal haul at the Olympics following the 2012 London Olympics which stands at six medals with two silver and four bronze medals.
