For the first time in India, the metro coaches for the Pune metro will be made of aluminum. According to an official presentation, these metro coaches are lighter (15.5T axle load) than the lightest coaches currently in use at Nagpur-Metro (16T axle load). The Metro coaches' double-walled structure with extruded sections of the car body made of aluminum provides the necessary strength while reducing weight.
Titagarh Kolkata has begun production of the first Made-in-India metro train in its newly upgraded plant, with the first train scheduled to arrive in December 2021. All 34 trains are expected to be delivered by March 2024.
The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation, a 50:50 joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra, is in charge of carrying out the Rs 11,420 crore Pune Metro project. The Pune metro system is divided into two corridors: 17.4 km long PCMC-Swargate with 14 stations and 15.7 km long Vanaz-Ramwadi with 16 stations.
