The Punjab government announced that from 2 August Schools will be open to all classes offline. Punjab schools receive the state's final reopening mark. According to the Punjab Government Notice, “Schools will have to follow proper protocol to ensure proper conduct in relation to COVID-19. The School Department issues guidelines in this regard.” This reopening order applies to all classes, not just the older ones. This reopening of schools is part of the next phase of the COVID-19 unlock. Schools also host virtual classrooms alongside physical classrooms.
Earlier, on July 26, 2021 schools for Class X & XII reopened in Punjab after being closed for nearly four months. During the COVID review meeting, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said schools will be allowed to open for Class X - XII, but only teachers and staff will be allowed to physically attend, who are fully vaccinated.
At that time, the school education department issued detailed instructions that only fully vaccinated teachers and non-teaching staff can attend school in person. The guidelines also required schools to seek written parental consent to send children to class. Several other states in India have also allowed the resumption of physical education in schools for students of certain age groups.
Although permission has been granted, it must be ensured that all required COVID-19 security protocols are being followed. Wear masks, use disinfectants and maintain social distancing as the basis of safety measures. The state reports fewer cases and a significant decrease in the number of COVID. Punjab reported 49 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, totaling 5,99,053 since the pandemic that broke out last year. No deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours.
