The World Drug Report 2021 was released by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). According to the report, in 2020, 275 million people used drugs worldwide. According to the report, 36 million people suffered from drug use disorders. Over the past 24 years, the effectiveness of cannabis has quadrupled in parts of the world.
The share of adolescents who consider drugs harmful has decreased by 40 percent. Despite this, cannabis use is associated with a host of health and other harm, especially among regular users.
The Drug Report stresses the need to bridge the gap between perception and reality in order to educate young people about the harmful effects of drugs and protect public health. The percentage of ?9-THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, increased from six to 11 percent in Europe between 2002 and 2019.
Drugs and COVID-19
Most countries have reported an increase in cannabis use during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to surveys of health professionals in 77 countries, 42 percent said cannabis use has increased.
What age group is vulnerable?
According to the latest report, about 5.5 percent of the population aged 15 to 64 have used drugs at least once in 2020. While 36.3 million people (13% of total drug users) suffered from drug use disorders.
