Description

Delhi AIIMS Director Dr. Randip Guleria said on June 23, 2021 that COVID-19 protocols, lockdowns and vaccinations for everyone, including children, will help avoid the third wave of COVID-19, containing the spread of the new Delta Plus variant. There have been 40 cases of COVID-19 infection caused by the Delta Plus variant, the Ministry of Health said.

Dr. Guleria said, “It's hard to say that Delta Plus is causing any problems in India,” but letting go is not an option. He stressed that he must be vigilant, adhere to COVID-19 protocols and get vaccinated to avoid a third wave.

1. The third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic depends on us

We must understand that the virus still exists and is mutating. The third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic depends on us. Therefore, to avoid a third wave, we need to aggressively follow three principles.

2. 3 things to avoid the third wave of COVID-19

The third wave of COVID-19 and containing the spread of the new Delta Plus variant by doing three things: vaccinations, proper behavior, and good surveillance are critical even if the number of cases declines.

Strictly adheres to COVID-19 protocols such as social distancing, washing hands, wearing masks, and not making the mistake of complacency after the first wave. If any area reports an increase in the number of cases and hospitalizations, then that area should be isolated and restrictions should be imposed to stop the spread of the virus.

Vaccination breaks the chain of transmission

Highlighting the need to vaccinate more people, Dr Guleria said vaccination breaks the chain of transmission and vaccinated people are less likely to contract a serious illness. COVID vaccine for children from 2 years old to September-October

“Children usually contract a mild form of the disease, but if we want to control this pandemic, we need to develop vaccines for children so that everyone can get vaccinated,”.

He said Bharat Biotech and other companies are conducting face-to-face trials to develop a COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 2-18. Phase II or III data from Bharat Biotech's COVAXIN vaccine in children is expected by September-October 2021.

"Hopefully by then, the approvals will be obtained, so by September-October, we will have vaccines in India that we can give to children."
