Description

The evaluation criteria which the results are going to be announced in July after the cancellation of class X and XII exams in West Bengal thanks to the pandemic situation, the two boards on Friday announced President of West Bengal Board of secondary education Kalyanmoy Ganguly told a joint press meet that for the 2021 class X results in a 50:50 formula are going to be followed.

As per the formula the candidates mark in the class IX annual examination and therefore the internal assessment in class X is going to be taken into consideration.
Mr. Ganguly also said, "For Madhyamik (Class X) examination the standards are going to be on 50:50 basis with equal emphasis given on the category nine annual exam mark and internal formative assessment for each subject in class X. "

The President of West Bengal Council of higher education Mahua Das said at the same press meet that the very best marks in four of the seven subjects the candidate secured in 2019 Madhyamik (Class X) examination are going to be given weightage also as his/her marks in class XI annual tests.
With this weightage, the entire marks secured by the candidate in the class XII project/practical are going to be added.


Mahua Das further said that "The evaluation is going to be on 40:60 ratio (2019 Madhyamik results with four highest-scoring paper marks and class XI annual exams marks ". For science/arts stream students the marks in practical/projects in class XII are going to be added within the assessment. Both Ganguly and Das said that in both exams, if any candidate isn't willing to choose the evaluation criteria he/she can apply to take a seat for exams which can be held when things become conducive for exams.


She said authorities of the upper secondary class are asked to submit the annual exam results of their candidates by June 23, 2021. Both the secondary (Class X) board and higher secondary (Class XII) council said the results are going to be out by July but didn't provide a date. Referring to the announcement made by both the boards, educationist Pabitra Sarkar said "this can't be the choice to exams that our children prepare throughout the year. This complex calculation reminds me of the children's classic by Bengali writer Sukumar Ray. But in the present situation, there's no other answer left for the authorities conducting exams where lakhs of youngsters need to sit."


On June 7, 2021, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that class X and class XII board exams were being canceled insight of the COVID-19 situation and said an expert committee, formed earlier to recommend the difficulty of cancellation or postponing of the exams will choose the choice evaluation method within the absolute best way with interest of students in mind.


Banerjee also said the exams were being canceled as recommended by the committee and as suggested by members of the public in a poll conducted by the department thereafter. Over XII lakh and 8.5 lakh, students were slated to seem for the Madhyamik and Uchcha Madhyamik examinations respectively this year.
