Jamsetji Nusservanji Tata, who was the founder of the Tata Group, ranked # 1 on the EdelGive Hurun Philanthropists of Century list. An estimated $ 102.4 billion donation went to the health and education sectors. Tata's total charitable value is 66 percent of Tata Sons, which is valued at $ 100 billion.
The Tata Group and its philanthropic activities are currently chaired and overseen by Honorary Chairman Ratan Tata.
About Jamsetji Tata
Jamsetji Tata was the founder of the Tata Iron and Steel Works Company (TISCO) in Jamshedpur, now known as Tata Steel. His donations began as early as 1892 and he was popular for his businesses in the cotton and cast iron industries. Although Jamsetji Tata died in 1904, Tata Steel operates in 26 countries and employs about 80,500 employees. Jamsetji Tata is considered the “father of Indian industry”. He was so influential throughout the world of industry that Jawaharlal Nehru called him "the sole planning committee."
