Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced the "Gujarat Electric Vehicle Policy for 2021" on June 22, 2021. Gujarat's Electric Vehicle Policy 2021 aims to make Gujarat a hub for electric vehicles by encouraging the use of electric vehicles in the state, reducing pollution from non-electric vehicles, and increasing investment in electric mobility.
The state government estimates that the 2021 EV policy will help reduce CO2 emissions by 6 lakh tons and save up to Rs 5 crore in fuel costs over the next four years.
Gujarat's Electric Vehicle Policy for 2021 is a four-year state plan with a budget of Rs 870 crore, aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in the state. The state government will offer subsidies to new electric vehicle buyers and those investing in electric vehicle infrastructure.
Advantages
Gujarat Electric Vehicle Policy aims to benefit approximately 1.10 lakhs of electric two-wheelers, 70,000 electric three-wheelers and 20,000 electric four-wheelers in Gujarat over the next four years. Approximately a total of 2 lakh buyers will benefit from this policy.
In line with Gujarat's 2021 Electric Vehicle Policy, the state government will provide subsidies of up to Rs 20,000 for electric bicycles, Rs 50,000 for electric tricycles and Rs 1.50 for electric four-wheelers. the maximum capacity in the country will be offered. Delhi is currently offering a subsidy of Rs 5,000 per kWh of battery capacity for two-wheeled vehicles and Rs 10,000 per kWh for four-wheeled vehicles.
The Gujarat state government will provide subsidies to buyers of electric vehicles along with incentives provided by the central government as part of the second phase of the FAME India scheme, the Gujarat government's Information Department said. Buyers are not charged a registration fee for their electric vehicles at any RTO in Gujarat. Buyers will receive the subsidy in their bank account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Electric vehicle eligibility for subsidies
For eligible electric vehicles, the selling price of electric vehicles cannot exceed 15 lakhs, electronic rickshaws cannot exceed 5 lakhs, and two-wheeled electronic vehicles cannot exceed Rs 1.5 lakh.

Both private and commercial buyers of electric vehicles will be eligible for subsidies. Gujarat's Electric Vehicle Policy 2021: Benefits for Charging Infrastructure Developers Gujarat currently has 278 EV charging stations. EV Policy 2021 will add 250 more stations, bringing the total number of charging stations to 528.
The state government will approve fuel pumps for installing electric vehicle charging stations on their territory. The first 250 commercial public electric vehicle charging stations will receive a 25 percent subsidy for the purchase of equipment or machinery (limited to 10 lakhs per station).
All residential and commercial businesses offering to install electric vehicle charging stations will be required to provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and designated parking spaces. The state government will also waive the electricity tariff for electric vehicle charging stations for the duration of the policy.
