By 2031, the mega-comet UN271 is expected to pass the Sun and approach Saturn's orbit. The mega-comet was identified during the astronomical discoveries of the Dark Energy Survey, which collected data between 2014 and 2018.
Mega comet 2014 UN271, 100 to 370 km wide, was placed on the territory of a small dwarf planet. A mega comet has been discovered at the edge of our solar system.
Astronomical data show that one end of the mega-comet's orbit is closer to our Sun, and the other end extends to the Oort Cloud, the most distant region of our solar system, made up of a circumstellar disk of dust and gas 6,12,190 years for a complete revolution. The mega-comet 2014 UN271 takes about 6,12,190 years to complete one complete revolution due to the huge distance between the two end points.
Currently, mega-comet 2014 UN271 is located approximately 22 astronomical units (AU) from the Sun. The comet was about 29 astronomical units from the Sun when it was first spotted in 2014. Since then, over the past seven years, it has moved one astronomical unit every year. One au is equal to the distance between the Earth and the Sun. Mega-comet UN271 could cross Saturn's orbit by 2031
Scientists estimate that by 2031 the mega-comet will pass the Sun at a distance of 10.9 AU.
Will it be visible from Earth?
Even with the closest passage of the Sun, it will be very far from the Earth. Even with a telescope, its visibility would be similar to that of Pluto's largest moon, Charon.
Other instances of interstellar objects from space. Mega comet 2014 UN 271 is not the first time that an object has been visited from space. In 2017, an interstellar object called Oumuamua became the first comet ever spotted entering our solar system at 92,000 km / h before returning to outer space. It was 2,600 feet wide and 1,300 feet long.
