The Delhi government has launched the Mukhyamantri COVID-19 Pariwar Aarthik Sahayata Yojana project to provide financial assistance to families who have lost a family member to the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the notice from the Department of Social Security, Rs 50,000 ex-gratia will be provided to every family that has lost a member during the pandemic.
The announcement of the introduction of such a scheme was announced on May 18, 2021 by Chief Minister Arvind Kejrival. He also promised free education and financial assistance to children who have lost one or both parents.
A pension of Rs 2,500 per month will also be paid to those families who have lost their sole breadwinner due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The government will also consider enrolling the only member of the affected family as a civil defense volunteer. The government will also take care of the health and education of dependent children.
Conditions for obtaining ex-gratia -
There is no income criterion that could be applied to obtain ex-gratia under this scheme. However, the deceased and dependent must be from Delhi. To qualify for ex-gratia, death must be certified as death or death from COVID-19 within one month of testing positive for Covid-19.
