In the 6th edition of the 2021 Sustainable Development Report, released on June 14, 2021, India was ranked 120th out of 165 countries with a 60.1 rating. Finland topped the rankings with 85.90, followed by Sweden at 85.61, Denmark at 84.86, Germany at 82.48 and Belgium at 82.19.
The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) released its annual Sustainable Development Report 2021 on June 14, 2021, in which all UN member states ranked 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The report also includes data on the International Spillover Index.
India's spillover score is 98.90 out of 100, and its spillover rating is 32 out of 165 countries. Each country's action plan can have a positive or negative impact on the ability of other countries to achieve the SDGs. A country with a higher rate of spillovers indicates that the country has more positive spillovers and fewer negative spillovers.
What is a sustainability report?
The Sustainable Development Report (formerly the SDG Index and Dashboards) is the world's first study that assesses each country based on its progress across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All member countries of the United Nations (UN) adopted the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015.
The 2021 Sustainable Development Report presents the SDG Index and dashboards for all UN member countries. The SDG Index and Dashboards provide rankings of all UN member countries based on their achievement across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Since 2015, for the first time, all countries have shown reverse progress towards the SDGs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, low-income developing countries (LICs) lack the financial capacity to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the pandemic has exacerbated the problem.
East and South Asia has demonstrated more progress towards the SDGs than any other region at the regional level. Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Côte d'Ivoire are the three separate countries that have made the most progress on the SDG index since 2015. Central African Republic, Chad and South Sudan ranked lowest on the SDGs.
International Spillover Index
The authors of the 2021 Sustainable Development Report also compiled the International Spillover Index for each member country. The International Spillover Index measures spillovers (positive or negative) depending on the actions of each country. The Spillover Index falls into four categories that affect countries' SDGs due to negative spillovers.
Environmental and social side effects embodied in trade
Since 2012, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has been operating under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. SDSN prepares technological and global scientific expertise to find solutions for sustainable development, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
