Joe Biden & Vladimir Putin Summit 2021
Date - 16th Jun 2021
US President Joe Biden arrived in Geneva ahead of his first summit with Vladimir Putin amid escalating tensions between Russia and the United States in recent years. Joe Biden flew to Geneva after forging relations with Washington's closest allies during the NATO and G7 summits in Brussels and the UK.
It will be the first meeting between the US and Russia since 2018, when Putin met with Donald Trump in Helsinki. The summit will take place at Villa La Grange and the surrounding park.
Relations between the United States and Russia
The relationship between the United States and Russia is one of the most important bilateral relations in the world. The two countries have common interests in a variety of areas, including nuclear security and non-proliferation, countering terrorism and violent extremism, regional security in Europe and Eurasia, and managing shocks in the Middle East. Russia is also an important partner in US efforts to combat climate change and space exploration.
The United States is critical of Russia as it frustrates and cooperates in its efforts to enter the world stage. For more than two decades, bilateral relations have alternated between periods of cooperation and confrontation. However, tensions over the conflicts in Ukraine and Syria are hampering relations.
