Google has expanded card tokenization in Google Pay App
Date - 16th Jun 2021
Google has expanded card tokenization by adding more card banks in the Google Pay app. Card tokenization is a feature that allows users to make payments with debit or credit cards using a secure digital token that is attached to their phone. This does not require you to physically provide your credit or debit card details. This feature is currently available in approximately 2.5 million Visa merchants. Thanks to the latest extension, it will allow users to scan and pay for around 1.5 million sellers using Bharat QR.
Features of card tokenization
This feature allows users with devices or phones that support Near Field Communication (NFC) to make contactless payments. Users will be able to pay their bills and top up their numbers using credit cards. This feature also works with online merchants and ensures a smooth OTP experience without being redirected to 3D secure sites.
Which banks have used this feature?
Google Pay previously rolled out a tokenization feature for cards with cards from the State Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Axis Bank.
What banks are added now?
Google Pay has now added SBI, IndusInd Bank and Federal Bank, as well as IndusInd Bank and HSBC India credit cards to the list to use the tokenization feature.
