India Export GI certified Jalgaon Banana to Dubai

A shipment of Jalgaon Banana, rich in fiber and minerals, was exported to Dubai on June 16, 2021, which marks a significant increase in exports. Jalgaon Banana is a GI-certified agricultural product from the Jalgaon region of Maharashtra state. Twenty-two tons of Jalgaon banana were sourced from the progressive farmers of the Tandalwadi village. This village is part of the Jalgaon district of Maharashtra state. The Jalgaon area is an identified banana cluster under the Agri Export Policy and is called the "Banana City" of Maharashtra. It accounts for two-thirds of all banana production in the state.
Jalgaon Banana received GI certification in 2016. He was registered with Nisargraja Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Jalgaon.
Banana export from India
Banana exports from India have skyrocketed due to the adoption of agricultural practices in line with global standards. Banana exports from India increased in both volume and value from 1.34 million metric tons in 2018-19 to 1.95 million metric tons in 2019-2020. During 2020-2021, India exported bananas at a value of 1.91 lakh per ton, which is estimated at Rs 619 crore.
Banana production in India
India is the world's leading banana producer with a 25% share of total production. The leading banana producing states are Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. These states account for about 70% of India's banana production.
