US Crossed Six Lakh Death Marks due to COVID 19
Date - 16th Jun 2021
The U.S. death toll from COVID-19 surpassed 600,000 on June 15, 2021, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University. According to the CSSE, the total number of deaths in the United States due to COVID-19 infection has risen to 600,012, and the total number of COVID cases has reached 33.4 million.
US President Joe Biden's official Twitter account tweeted -
Today we have passed a grim milestone 600,000 lives have been lost from COVID-19. My heart belongs to all those who have lost a loved one. I know this black hole that seems to swallow you, but there will come a time when their memory brings a smile to your lips before tears come to your eyes. On December 14, the death toll reached 300,000, and on January 19, it quickly rose to 400,000 and surpassed half a million on February 22, 2021.
Although it took almost four months for the total US death toll to double from 100,000 to 200,000, it jumped to 300,000 in less than three months, and then to 400,000 and 500,000 in about a month, respectively. According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, the country's total death toll rose from 500,000 to 600,000 at a much slower pace in nearly four months.
The US death toll is the highest in the world, ahead of Brazil and India. However, the US has also bounced back with one of the most effective immunization campaigns in the world. In New York City, which became the second-highest number of deaths, nearly 70 percent of adults received at least one dose of the vaccine, and the city has finally lifted almost all of its restrictions.
California, which was the first U.S. state to quarantine just 15 months ago, lifted nearly all pandemic-related restrictions, including social distancing rules, on June 15, 2021. The state celebrated its "Re-opening day". All fully vaccinated people in the state will be able to move around without masks. Some exceptions still remain, including in public transport, schools and hospitals. US President Joe Biden has set July 4, 2021 as a target date for 70 percent of US adults to receive at least one dose of the vaccine.
