India Export GI Certified Jardalu Mangos from Bihar to the UK

Bihar exported the first commercial shipment of GI-certified Jardalu mangoes from Bhagalpur to the United Kingdom. Mango Jardalu from Bhagalpur District received GI certification in 2018. The Agricultural and Processed Food Export Development Authority (APEDA), in cooperation with the government of Bihar, the High Commission of India and Invest India, exported Jardalu mangoes. Mangoes were packed and processed in an APEDA bag in Lucknow.

How does APEDA promote exports?

• APEDA initiated measures to increase exports of mangoes from non-traditional regions. It hosts virtual sellers and buyers meetings and a festival to promote mango exports.
• He organized the Mango Festival in Berlin, Germany and Japan in collaboration with the Indian Embassies.
• He also organized a week-long Indian Mango Promotion Program in Bahrain featuring 16 varieties of mangoes, including three GI certified varieties (Hirsapati and Lakshmanbhog from West Bengal and Jardalu from Bihar).
• In May 2021, APEDA, together with the Indian Embassy, ??Seoul and the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Korea, organized a virtual seller-buyer meeting to provide a platform for exporters and importers of mangoes from India and South Korea.
• Thus, mangoes are processed by APEDA packaging plants and exported to several countries, namely the Middle East, USA, European Union, Japan and South Korea.

Mango production in India

Mango is called the king of fruits. They are also referred to in ancient scriptures as kalpavriksha (wish fulfillment tree). Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka have the main share in the total mango production.
