Indian Meteorological Department & ICMR Partnered with Malaria No More
Date - 15th Jun 2021
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) have partnered with the nongovernmental organization Malaria No More. IMD & ICMR has established a committee of experts to study and promote climate solutions to eradicate malaria in India in collaboration with Malaria NO More. The committee is called the Indian Inter-Ministerial Committee of Experts on Malaria and Climate (IEC).
IEC is part of a global initiative called Predicting a Healthy Future, which seeks to develop evidence-based strategies and policies to improve health outcomes. It will focus on improving models for malaria control. The IEC will be composed of leading experts and researchers in the fields of health, climate and technology. They will help identify and deploy sophisticated climate forecasting tools for malaria. These tools will be tailored to India's context to accelerate progress towards India's 2030 malaria elimination target.
The committee will help combine weather information with information from the health sector to study microtrends and predict the nature of malaria. This could strengthen India's efforts.
The Role of More Malaria
Malaria No More will help develop data-driven solutions with a weather-based forecasting model for planning national campaigns for the prevention, testing and treatment of malaria.
