Flipkart’s Medicine from Sky Project with Telangana Government
Date - 12th Jun 2021
E-commerce giant Flipkart has partnered with the Telangana government to spearhead the Medicines from Sky project. The consortium was tasked with developing and implementing unmanned deliveries of medical supplies to remote areas as part of the project. As part of the consortium, Walmart's Flipkart will deploy drones and deliver vaccines and medical supplies. Drone-assisted cargo delivery will be complemented by technologies such as geo-mapping, location tracking and cargo routing.
The technology has been developed by Flipkart over the years to serve millions of customers across India. These technologies will be used to deliver vaccines "out of line of sight" (BVLOS) to remote areas of Telangana, where road infrastructure does not facilitate faster vaccine delivery.
Developed by the World Economic Forum and Healthnet Global Limited, this project outlines drone delivery requirements and evaluates proposals.
Facilitating Technological Development in the COVID Crisis
The COVID-19 crisis has pushed for the rapid development of scalable and reliable technologies to deliver drugs and services more quickly to contain the pandemic. The Medicines from Heaven project is evidence of this push.
