Date - 12th Jun 2021
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) India published an independent report and praised the Aspiration District Program (ADP) as “a successful model for local area development”. According to the report, ADP should serve as best practice for other countries where regional differences in development persist. The report emphasizes that ADP has made a concerted effort to keep abandoned areas in remote areas and areas affected by left-wing extremism on a positive growth trajectory with continued growth and development over the past three years. Health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources have improved significantly.
UNDP Health, Nutrition and Financial Inclusion
According to the report, more than 9.6% of home births are attended by skilled birth attendants. About 5.8% more pregnant women with severe anemia and 4.8% of children diagnosed with diarrhea receive treatment. In the first trimester, 4.5% of pregnant women seek antenatal care. Under Pradhan Mantri Jivan Jyoti Bima Yojan, about 1580 accounts were opened per 1 lakh of the population. UNDP has identified Mukt Bastar Abhyan Malaria in Bijapur and Dantewada as one of the best practices in ADP. This abhiyan reduced the incidence of malaria by 71% and 54% in the two districts, respectively.
