Maharastra Government Plans To Protect Heritage Trees

Maharashtra's Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Uddhava Thakkeray, has approved an action plan to protect ancient and old trees 50 years old and older in urban areas. The Cabinet of Ministers approved an action plan for the implementation of the Heritage Tree concept in Maharashtra. This action plan was proposed by the Department of the Environment, led by Aaditya Thackeray.
The Action Plan amends the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Trees Protection and Conservation Act 1975. The amendment will help preserve the green cover of urban landscapes, as well as provide a reliable mechanism to protect historic trees.
What are these amendments?
Tree Authorities
In order to protect a significant number of trees, the Maharashtra government will establish a "State Maharashtra Trees Authority". The authorities will determine the use of wood waste.The tree expert will be part of the local tree office to give opinions. The chief city council official will be the chairman of the Tree Authority.
