Organic Agricultural exports increased to 51 percent this year 2020-21 in India

India's Organic Agricultural exports increased to 51 percent in 2020-2021, according to Commerce Minister Anup Wadhavan, causing a supply chain disruption due to the coronavirus. Organic outbound shipments reached $ 1,040 million in the last fiscal year, up from $ 689 million in 2020. Farm exports increased more than 17 percent to $ 41.25 billion in the last Financial year.
The export of organic products increased by 39 percent and in the last financial year reached 8 lakhs 88 thousand 179 tons. Organic products shipped include oil cake & meals, oil seeds, millets, cereals, spices and condiments, tea, dry fruits, sugar, coffee and herbal medicinal products.
Organic farming in India
Organic farming in India is in its infancy. According to the Union Ministry Of Agriculture And Farmer Welfare, as of March 2020, 2.78 million hectares of agricultural land were under organic cultivation. It accounts for just two percent of India's 140.1 million hectares of net crop area. some states have improved their organic farming coverage. The bulk of this area is concentrated in only a few states such as Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. These states cover half of the area under organic crops. Madhya Pradesh tops the list with 0.76 million hectares of organic cultivation area, equivalent to 27 percent of India's total organic cultivation area.
