OFFICIAL SYLLABUS
English(Theory)
SECTION A: READING
Two unseen passages of a total of 500 words with a variety of questions including 4 marks for vocabulary. Only prose passages will be used. One will be factual and the other will be literary.
Passage 1 - 200 words - Four or five comprehension questions.
Passage 2 - 300 words -Four or five comprehension questions and two questions on vocabulary. Marks for vocabulary will not exceed 4 marks.
SECTION B: WRITING
1. Letter Writing - One letter based on provided verbal stimulus and context. Type of letter : Informal: Personal such as to family and friends. Formal: Letter of complaints, inquiries, requests, and applications.
2. Writing a short paragraph on a given outline/topic in about 60 words
3. Composition: A short writing task based on a verbal and/or visual stimulus. (diagram, picture, graph, map, chart, table, flow chart, etc.) Maximum words 80
SECTION C: GRAMMER
A variety of short questions involving the use of particular structures within a context. Test types used will include cloze, gap-filling, sentence-completion, sentence-reordering, dialogue-completion, and sentence-transformation (including combining sentences). The Grammar syllabus will include the following areas for teaching:
1. Use of non-finite.
2. Sentence connectors: as, since, while, then, just because, just, until.
3. Clauses with what, where, and how.
4. Past Tense.
5. Modals: can, could, may, must, might.
SECTION D: TEXTBOOKS
First Flight - Textbook for Class X
Prose
1. Two extracts from different prose lessons included in Textbook (Approximately 100 words each)
2. These extracts chosen from different lessons will be literary and discursive in nature Each extract will be of 5 marks. One mark in each extract will be for vocabulary. marks in each passage will be used for testing local and global comprehension besides a question on interpretation.
3. One out of two questions extrapolative in nature based on any one of the prose lessons from Textbook to be answered in about 80 words.
4. One out of two questions on Drama Text (local and global comprehension question)(30-40 words)
Poetry
1. One extract from a poem from the prescribed reader followed by two or three questions to test the local and global comprehension of the set text. The extract will carry four marks.
2. Two out of three short answer-type questions on interpretation of themes and ideas contained in the poems to be answered in 30-40 words each.
Foot Prints without Feet - Supplementary Reader for Class X
1. One out of two questions from Supplementary Reader to interpret, evaluate and analyse character, plot or situations occurring in the lessons to be answered in about 100 words.
2. One out of two short answer type questions of interpretative and evaluative nature based on lessons to be answered in 30-40 words
3. One out of two short answer type questions based on factual aspects of the lessons to be answered in 20-30 words.

Conditions of eligibility for admission to class X.
1. Candidates who have been studying in a School recognised by or affiliated to this Board or any other recognised Board of Secondary Education in India.
2. Candidates can not take admission directly in class X.
3. Candidates had completed a regular course of study for class IX and passed class IX examination from a school affilicated to this Board.
4. The candidates percentage for attendance should be 75% so that the Board to make him/her eligible for the Examinations.
5. Candidate can be admitted to a school only on the transfer of the parents(s) or shifting of their families from one place to another, after procuring from the student the marksheet and the Transfer Certificate duly counter signed by the Educational Authorities of the Board concerned.
6. There is no age limit for candidates taking the Examination.
7. Candidate should have doucments in support of his having passed the qualifying or equivalent qualifying examination.

Analysis
There will be four Sections in this Paper. Section A, Section B, Section C and Section D.
SECTION A : READING (20 marks) - Two unseen passages with a variety of comprehension questions.
SECTIONS B: WRITING (20 marks) - Three writing tasks as indicated below:
(1) Letter - (8 Marks)
(2) Short Notes of not more than 60 words - (4 Marks)
(3) Essay - (8 Marks).
SECTION C : GRAMMAR (15 Marks)
Fill in the blanks with correct form of Non - Finits, Pair of sentences using sentence connectors, Direct/Indirect, Form of verbs, Rearrange the following words, Active Voice/Passive Voice
SECTION D :TEXTBOOK (45 Marks)
(1) Prose - 20 Marks
(2) Poetry - 10 Marks
(3) Supplementary Reader - 15 Marks
And
There is no overall choice, However, internal choices have been provided in two questions of one mark each, two questions of two marks, one question of three marks, and three questions of five marks weightage. You have to attempt only one of the choices in such questions.
Comment
1. The difficulty level of the English paper 2020: Easy
2. The pattern of the English paper was similar to the latest English Sample Paper 2020.
3. All the questions in the paper were asked from the latest syllabus and based on NCERT textbooks
4 . The average range of expected marks was 60 to 70+ (out of 80)
1. This paper is divided into Three Sections. Section A, Section B and Section C.
2. Total 20 Questions is in this paper.
3. In the Section A (marks 20) there will be 2 questions.
4. Question no.1 will be 08 marks and Question no. 2 will be 12 marks.
5. In the Section B (marks 20) there will be 3 questions.
6. Question no. 3 will be 08 marks, Question no. 4 will be 04 marks and Question no. 5 will be 08 marks.
7. In the Section C (marks 15) there will be 06 questions.
8. Question no.6 to 8 will be 2 marks, Question no. 9 will be 3 marks.
9. Question no. 10 will be 2 marks and question no. 11 will be 04 marks
10. In the Section D (marks 45) there will be 9 questions.
11. Questioin no. 12 & 13 will be 05 marks, Question no. 14 will be 06 marks, Question no. 15 will be 04 marks.
12. Questioin no. 16 will be 4 marks, Question no. 17 will be 06 marks, Question no. 18 will be 8 marks.
13. Question no. 19 will be 04 marks and Question no. 20 will be 03 marks.
