ICSE EXAM CLASS 10TH LATEST UPDATE
Finally, wait is over and The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has officially released the date sheet for ICSE (Class 10) board examinations for 2025. This year class 10th board exam will be started from 18 February 2025 and will last upto 27 March 2025, it will take around 38 days to complete the class 10th board exam. The first exam will be held on 18 February 2025 for English subject and the last exam will be held on 27 March 2025 for Environmental Science subject. The Indian School Certificate Examination results will be declared in the month of May.
Official Syllabus
There will be one paper of two hours duration of 80 marks and Internal Assessment of practical work carrying 20 marks.
The paper will be divided into two sections, Section I (40 marks) and Section II (40 marks).
Section I (compulsory) will contain short answer questions on the entire syllabus
Section II will contain six questions. Candidates will be required to answer any four of these six questions.
1. Basic Biology
(i) Cell Cycle and Cell Division
Cell cycle – Interphase (G1,S,G2) and Mitotic phase.
Cell Division:
• Mitosis and its stages.
• A basic understanding of Meiosis as a reduction division (stages not required).
• A brief idea of homologous chromosomes and crossing over leading to variations.
• Significance and major differences between mitotic and meiotic division.
(ii) Structure of chromosome
Basic structure of chromosome with elementary understanding of terms such as chromatin, chromatid, gene structure of DNA and centromere.
(iii) Genetics: Mendel’s laws of inheritance.
• The three laws of Mendel.
• Monohybrid cross – phenotype and genotype. Mendel’s experiments on inheritance taking 7 pairs of contrasting features of garden pea.
• The following terms to be covered: gene, allele, heterozygous, homozygous, dominant, recessive, mutation, variation, phenotype, genotype, homologous chromosomes, autosomes, sex chromosomes.
• Inheritance in Humans – A few characters and their traits. Tongue rolling as an example of inheritance.
2. Plant Physiology
(i) Absorption by roots, imbibition, diffusion and osmosis; osmotic pressure, root pressure; turgidity and flaccidity; plasmolysis and de-plasmolysis; the absorption of water and minerals; active and passive transport (in brief); The rise of water up to the xylem; Forces responsible for ascent of sap.
• Understanding of the processes related to absorption of water by the roots.
• Characteristics of roots, which make them suitable for absorb in g water.
• Structure of a single full-grown root hair.
• A general idea of Cohesive, Adhesive forces and transpiration pull
• Experiments to show the conduction of water through the xylem.
(ii) Transpiration - process and significance. Ganong’s potometer and its limitations. The factors affecting rate of transpiration. Experiments on transpiration. A brief idea of guttation and bleeding.
• Concept of transpiration and its importance to plants
• Experiments related to transpiration:
(a) Loss in weight of a potted plant or a leafy shoot in a test tube as a result of transpiration.
(b) Use of cobalt chloride paper to demonstrate unequal rate of transpiration in a dorsiventral leaf.
• Adaptations in plants or educe transpiration.
• A brief idea of guttation and bleeding.
(iii) Photosynthesis: the process and its importance to life in general; experiments to show the necessity of light, carbon dioxide, chlorophyll, formation of starch and release of oxygen; carbocycle.
• The process and significance of Photosynthesis.
• The internal structure of chloroplast to be explained to give an idea of the site of light and dark reactions.
• Opening and closing of stomata based on potassium ion exchange theory.
• Overall balanced chemical equation to represent photosynthesis.
• Introduction of the terms "photochemical" for light phase and "biosynthetic" for dark phases.
• Light reaction - activation of chlorophyll followed by photolysis of water, release of O2, formation of ATP (photophosphorylation) and NADPH.
• Dark reaction - only combination of hydrogen released by NADP with CO2 to form glucose. (detailed equations are not required).
• Adaptations in plants for photosynthesis.
• Experiments with regard to the factors essential for photosynthesis; emphasis on detaching and the steps involved in starch test.

INTERNAL ASSESSMENT OF PRACTICAL WORK
The practical work is designed to test the ability of the candidates to make an accurate observation from specimens of plants and animals.
PLANT LIFE
(i) Observation of permanent slides of stages of mitosis.
(ii) Experiments demonstrating:
• Diffusion: using potassium permanganate in water.
• Osmosis: Thistle Funnel experiment and potato Osmo scope.
• Absorption: using a small herbaceous plant.
(iii) Experiments on Transpiration:
• demonstration of the process using a Bell Jar.
• demonstration of unequal transpiration in a dorsiventral leaf using cobalt chloride paper.
• demonstration of uptake of water and the rate of transpiration using Ganong’s potometer.
(iv) Experiments on Photosynthesis:
• to show the necessity of light, carbon dioxide and chlorophyll for photosynthesis.
• To show there lease of O2 during photosynthesis using hydrilla /elodea.
ANIMAL LIFE
(i) Identification of the structures of the urinary system, heart and kidney (internal structure) and brain (external view) through models and charts.
(ii) The identification of different types of blood cells under a microscope.
(iii) Identification of the internal structure of the Ear and Eye (Through models and charts).
(iv) Identification and location of selected endocrine glands: Adrenal, Pancreas, Thyroid and Pituitary glands with the help of a model or chart.
EVALUATION
The practical work/project work are to be evaluated by the subject teacher and by an External Examiner. (The External Examiner may be a teacher nominated by the Head of the school, who could be from the faculty, but not teaching the subject in the relevant section/class. For example, a teacher of Biology of Class VIII may be deputed to be an External Examiner for Class X, Biology projects.)
The Internal Examiner and the External Examiner will assess the practical work/project work independently.
Award of marks 20 Marks

The total marks obtained out of 20 are to be sent to the Council by the Head of the school.

Conditions of eligibility for admission to Class X
1. Candidates who have been awarded Pass Certificates in the class IX examination with are eligible to be admitted to the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education examination.
2. Candidates may be entered only by the school they are attending and in this respect, the decision of the Head of the School is final.
3. There is no age limit for candidates taking the examination.
4. Candidates whose attendance is below 75% of the working days are ordinarily not eligible to sit for the examination. However, the Chief Executive and Secretary has the authority to condone the shortage of attendance in the case of candidates whose minimum attendance is not less than 60% of the working days in each year of the two-year course. This is inclusive of absence due to illness and other special circumstances. Heads of Schools may represent, to the Chief Executive and Secretary, cases of candidates who deserve special consideration for condonation of shortage of attendance in Class IX and X, provided that the attendance of such candidates is not less than 60% of the working days, during each year of the two-year course.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
1. In addition to the duration indicated on the timetable for writing the paper, 15 minutes time is given for reading the Question Paper.
2. The Indian School Certificate Year 2025 Examination results will be declared in the month of May 2025.
3. The results will be made available on the official website of the CISCE.
4. For ICSE, the marks of the Practical/Project work Of the subject, already awarded to the candidate in the main examination, Will be carried forward. However, if the candidate was absent earlier either in Practical or during assessment of Project Work of the subject, then, the candidate, in addition to taking the Theory examination, is permitted to submit the Project Work and/or for Practical. which should then be assessed, and marks awarded and submitted.
5. CISCE will not retain answer scripts of the candidates later than 60 days from the day of the declaration of results. The same shall be destroyed thereafter.
6. All candidates who appear for the ICSE Main Examination, are eligible to take the Improvement Examination' conducted in the same year of Examination.

Students can go through the important points related to the ICSE Class 10 practical exam 2025 given below:
1. The maximum marks allotted for the ICSE Class 10 practical exam 2025 will vary depending on the subjects. For a few subjects, the total marks are 30, and for others, it is 20 marks.
2. Students will have to obtain a minimum of 40% marks in every subject to pass the ICSE class 10 exam 2025.
3. It is not necessary to pass separately in the theory and practical exams in ICSE as it is a cumulative score of the theory and practical exams.
4. The final dates for the practical exam for a subject will be decided after the consultation of a visiting examiner with the school head and the supervising examiner.

However, if the candidate was absent earlier either in Practical or during assessment of Project Work of the subject, then, the candidate, in addition to taking the Theory examination, is permitted to submit the Project Work and/or for Practical. which should then be assessed, and marks awarded and submitted.
LAST DATE FOR RETAINING ANSWER SCRIPTS
CISCE will not retain answer scripts of the candidates later than 60 days from the day of the declaration of results. The same shall be destroyed thereafter.
IMPROVEMENT EXAMINATION
Candidates who wish to improve their marks / grade in the same year of the Examination, may take the Improvement Examination.
1. Eligibility to appear for the ICSE (Class X) Improvement Examination:
a. All candidates who appear for the ICSE Main Examination, are eligible to take the Improvement Examination' conducted in the same year of Examination.
This will include candidates with any one of the following Results:
(i) PCA - Pass Certificate Awarded
(ii) PCNA - Pass Certificate Not Awarded
(iii) SPCA - Supplementary Pass Certificate Awarded
(iv) SPCNA - Supplementary Pass Cenificate Not Awarded
The candidates whose result is declared as ABSENT will not be eligible for the Improvement Examination.
2. Number of Subjects permitted:
The candidates will be permitted to appear in a maximum of any TWO subjects that they would have enrolled themselves for, in the given year of Examination, for the Main Examination.
i. Papers to appear in: The candidates appearing for a particular subject in the Improvement Examination are required to compulsorily appear for the Theory Paper of the subject.
ii. Practical/Project work: For ICSE, the marks of the Practical/Project work Of the subject, already awarded to the candidate in the main examination, Will be carried forward. However, if the candidate was absent earlier either in Practical or during assessment of Project Work of the subject, then, the candidate, in addition to taking the Theory examination, is permitted to submit the Project Work and/or for Practical. which should then be assessed, and marks awarded and submitted.
3. Registration of candidates for Improvement Examination:
Schools will be able to register the candidates, online, for the Improvement Examination, during the month of June / July.

Step 3: A new page will open displaying the ICSE exam date sheet in PDF format.
Step 4: Carefully review the date sheet to get all the necessary details regarding the ICSE exam.
Step 5: Download and save the timetable. It is also recommended to take a printout for future reference.
