Second Language - Bhartiya Bhasha (Hindi)
There will be a one paper of 3 hours which comprises 80 Marks and 20 Marks for Internal Assesment.
Paper is divided into Section A & Section B.
Section A - Language 40 Marks
Candidates will be required to attempt all questions from Section A. They must attempt four questions from Section B from ONLY two of the prescribed textbooks
SECTION A: LANGUAGE - 40 Marks
This section will consist of four questions, all of which will be compulsory.
Composition: Candidates will be required to write one composition, in the language, which may include short explanations, directions, descriptions or narratives. There will be a choice of subjects, which will be varied and may be suggested by language or other stimuli such as pictures and objects. (15 Marks)
Letter: Candidates will be required to write a letter from a choice of two subjects. Suggestions may be given. The layout of the letter with address, introduction, conclusion, etc., will form part of the assessment. (7 Marks)
Comprehension: An unseen passage of about 250 words will be given in the language. Questions on the passage will be set for answers in the language, designed to test the candidates' understanding of the content of the passage. (10 Marks)
Grammar: This will consist of tests in the use of language vocabulary, syntax and idioms, synthesis in sentence construction, formation of sentences in the language correctly embodying given words or forms. The question will not require any knowledge of grammatical terms. (8 Marks)
SECTION B: PRESCRIBED TEXTS - 40 Marks
The question paper will consist of structured and short answer questions. Candidates will be required to answer four questions from ONLY two of the prescribed textbooks. All questions will be set in the language and candidates will be required to answer in the language. The questions set will be designed to test the candidates’ understanding of the subject matter of the prescribed books.
The Class X – ICSE examination paper will be set on the entire syllabus prescribed for the subject. The Class IX internal examination is to be conducted on the portion of this syllabus that is covered during the academic year. The Council has not prescribed bifurcation of the syllabus prescribed for this subject
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT
Language and Literature: Two or three assignments of reasonable length/duration of which two should be written assignments – one from the language and one from the literature component of the syllabus.
SUGGESTED ASSIGNMENTS

Creative Writing: Students are to write short compositions (approximately 300 to 400 words each), the stimuli being:
(i) a piece of recorded music;
(ii) a recorded series of sounds;
(iii) a picture/photograph;
(iv) an opening sentence or phrase;
(v) a newspaper/magazine clipping or report;
One piece of factual writing which should be informative or argumentative; one piece of expressive writing which is descriptive and imaginative; preparation of film/book review.
Aural: Listening to a conversation/talk/reading of a short passage and then writing down the relevant or main points in the specified number of words and answering the given questions.
Literature (Prescribed Texts): Classes IX Assignments should be based on the prescribed textbooks on the following lines:
(i) Character/thematic analysis.
(ii) Socio-economic, cultural, historical relevance / background.
(iii)Summary / paraphrase.
EVALUATION: The assignments/project work are to be evaluated by the subject teacher and by an External Examiner. (The External Examiner may be a teacher nominated by the Head of the school, who could be from the faculty, but not teaching the subject in the section/class. For example, a teacher of the language of Class VIII may be deputed to be an External Examiner for Class X projects in the language.)
The Internal Examiner and the External Examiner will assess the assignments independently

Eligibility Conditions for Admission in Class IX
1. Candidates who have been awarded a pass certificate in the ICSE Class VIII examination are eligible for admission to the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Examination.
2. Candidates can be admitted only to the school they are attending and the decision of the head of the school is final in this regard.
3. There is no age limit for the candidates taking the exam.
4. Candidates whose attendance is less than 75% of the working days are generally not eligible to appear for the examination. However, the Chief Executive and the Secretary have the right to condone the shortfall of attendance in the case of those candidates whose minimum attendance is not less than 60% of the working days in each year of the two-year course. This includes absence due to illness and other special circumstances. Heads of Schools may represent to the Chief Executive and the Secretary, the cases of candidates who are eligible for special consideration for lack of attendance in classes IX and X, provided the attendance of such candidates is less than 60% of the working days during each year of the two-year course.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
1. In addition to the duration indicated on the timetable for writing the paper, 15 minutes time is given for reading the Question Paper.
2. The Indian School Certificate Year 2025 Examination results will be declared in the month of May 2025.
3. The results will be made available on the official website of the CISCE.
4. For ICSE, the marks of the Practical/Project work Of the subject, already awarded to the candidate in the main examination, Will be carried forward. However, if the candidate was absent earlier either in Practical or during assessment of Project Work of the subject, then, the candidate, in addition to taking the Theory examination, is permitted to submit the Project Work and/or for Practical. which should then be assessed, and marks awarded and submitted.
5. CISCE will not retain answer scripts of the candidates later than 60 days from the day of the declaration of results. The same shall be destroyed thereafter.
6. All candidates who appear for the ICSE Main Examination, are eligible to take the Improvement Examination' conducted in the same year of Examination.

1. The Indian School Certificate Year 2025 Examination results will be declared in the month of May 2025.

3. The results will be made available on the official website of the CISCE.
4. Heads of Schools are advised to take care that their students are carefully drilled to carry out the following directions.
ICSE CLASS 10 PRACTICAL EXAM HIGHLIGHTS
Students can go through the important points related to the ICSE Class 10 practical exam 2025 given below:
1. The maximum marks allotted for the ICSE Class 10 practical exam 2025 will vary depending on the subjects. For a few subjects, the total marks are 30, and for others, it is 20 marks.
2. Students will have to obtain a minimum of 40% marks in every subject to pass the ICSE class 10 exam 2025.
3. It is not necessary to pass separately in the theory and practical exams in ICSE as it is a cumulative score of the theory and practical exams.
4. The final dates for the practical exam for a subject will be decided after the consultation of a visiting examiner with the school head and the supervising examiner.
5. For ICSE, the marks of the Practical/Project work Of the subject, already awarded to the candidate in the main examination, Will be carried forward. IMPROVEMENT EXAMINATION
Candidates who wish to improve their marks / grade in the same year of the Examination, may take the Improvement Examination.
1. Eligibility to appear for the ICSE (Class X) Improvement Examination:
a. All candidates who appear for the ICSE Main Examination, are eligible to take the Improvement Examination' conducted in the same year of Examination.
This will include candidates with any one of the following Results:
(i) PCA - Pass Certificate Awarded
(ii) PCNA - Pass Certificate Not Awarded
(iii) SPCA - Supplementary Pass Certificate Awarded
(iv) SPCNA - Supplementary Pass Cenificate Not Awarded
The candidates whose result is declared as ABSENT will not be eligible for the Improvement Examination.
2. Number of Subjects permitted:
The candidates will be permitted to appear in a maximum of any TWO subjects that they would have enrolled themselves for, in the given year of Examination, for the Main Examination.
i. Papers to appear in: The candidates appearing for a particular subject in the Improvement Examination are required to compulsorily appear for the Theory Paper of the subject.
ii. Practical/Project work: For ICSE, the marks of the Practical/Project work Of the subject, already awarded to the candidate in the main examination, Will be carried forward. 3. Registration of candidates for Improvement Examination:
