Scholarship General Information 

The Bihar Skill Development Mission (BSDM) has launched a unique skill training programme by the name of "Kushal Yuva Program" which would enhance the employability Skills of all aspirants in the age group of 15-28 years (Age limit for SC/ST, OBC & People with Disabilities is as follows: SC/ST - 33 years, OBC - 31 years, PwD - 33 years), who have passed at least 10th Class irrespective of their having attained higher education or their currently pursuing higher education. Soft Skills training would comprise of Life skills, Communications Skills (English & Hindi) and Basic computer literacy which in turn would enhance their employability and act as a value add to the various domain specific training endeavours currently being implemented in Bihar.

As on 8th July 2024, the total admissions have crossed 24,78,215 and the number of approved center have crossed 1679. We started this journey with 48 centers and 1978 learners on 16th December 2016. Currently, approved centers cover 534 blocks across all the 38 districts of Bihar.

Salient Features

1. The course curriculum for Kushal Yuva Program would include three components: Life skills, Communications Skills (English & Hindi) and Basic computer literacy.

2. E-Learning mode shall be used for training delivery.

3. Training by certified trainers.

4. Sequential mode of learning prohibiting any skipping of sessions.

5. Central monitoring of step by step progress of each candidate through the web portal.

Eligibility Criteria 

All Candidates belonging to the age group of 15-25 years who have minimum qualification as 10th pass irrespective of the fact that the candidate is pursuing /completed any Higher Education Course/Degree will be eligible to undertake training under the "Kushal Yuva Program". Apart from the above all those youth of the 20-25 age group who have opted for and have been sanctioned for self-help allowance, have to compulsorily complete this training.

Selection Process 

Those candidates who are in the age group of 20- 25 years and wish to avail or are enrolled for self-help allowance will not get last 5 months of their due allowance unless they successfully complete the Kushal Yuva Programme training.

Salient features

1. The course curriculum for Kushal Yuva Program would include three components: Life skills, Communications Skills (English & Hindi) and Basic computer literacy. The course duration covering all the three components would be 240 hours (Life Skills for 40 hours, Communication Skills for 80 hours and Basic computer literacy component would be covered in approx. 120 hours).

2. E-Learning mode shall be used for training delivery.

3. Assessment (post self-learning and mock tests) of Trainers (Oncet) followed by certification will be carried out to get quality trainers and maintain uniformity across centres. It would be prime responsibility of the Skill Development Centre (SDC) to ensure that each trainer deployed by it undergoes the OnCET test. Only the certified trainers passing the assessment will be eligible for imparting training.

4. It is preferable to have a trainer who has himself passed the KYP Course and is having educational qualification of minimum 12th pass, unless he has a higher Degree / Diploma in Computer Science.
