Scholarship General Information 

With a view of enhance the spread of Science and Technology in the specific regions of the country, the Inter Academy Panel has initiated the Focus Area Science Technology Summer Fellowship [FAST-SF]. This coming year our focus will be on the North Eastern States of the country and the states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and union territories of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and the FAST-SF will be for students and teachers studying/working in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and union territories of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

Eligibility Criteria 

For Students

Applicants should be studying in one of the following:

1. BS / BSc / BVSc (II year only)

2. BPharm (III and IV years only)

3. BE / BTech / BCA (II and III years only)

4. BArch (II, III and IV years only)

5. MS / MSc / MVSc / MPharm (I year only)

6. ME / MTech / MCA / MArch (I year only)

7. (5-year integrated) MS / MSc /MTech / MBBS (II, III, IV years only)

8. PharmD (III, IV years only)

9. (dual degree) BTech + MTech (II, III, IV years only)

10. (dual degree) BE + MSc (II, III, IV years only)

11. (dual degree) BS + MS (II, III, IV years only)              

12. Integrated PhD (I, II years only)

13. MSc Tech (I, II years only)

Teachers

1. Teachers working in North-Eastern states of India, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and union territories of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh only need apply.

2. The minimum percentage of average marks in core subjects only (i.e. excluding languages) from X std. up to post-graduation (whichever years completed) should be 65% or above. The minimum percentage of average marks does not apply for teachers.

3. PhD students are not eligible.

Award Amount  

The selected students/teachers will be provided appropriate round trip train fare and a monthly fellowship to meet their living expenses at the place of work.

Application Procedure 

The application should be submitted online in the prescribed format. This link is available in the websites of the three Academies (http://www.ias.ac.in;www.insaindia.res.in;www.nasi.org.in).

It's mandatory to upload the marks sheets from class X till the last examination. Please have the scanned versions of the mark sheets (in JPEG format - the size of each marks sheet should not exceed 700 kb), before starting to fill up the application.

The application should include:
1. the application form in the prescribed format;
2. scanned copies of marks sheets from class X till the last examination;
3. a write-up (in about 150-250 words) as to what the applicant wants to learn and achieve.

Selection Process 

All decisions regarding the selection of candidates will be at the sole discretion of the Academies. Any grievance or dispute concerning FAST-SF shall be addressed to the Academy whose decision thereon shall be final.

 Academy means Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru. Academies mean Indian Academy of Sciences (Bengaluru); Indian National Science Academy (New Delhi); and The National Academy of Sciences, India (Prayagraj).

Important Points

1. Letters of selection will be sent to selected candidates within 25 days from the date of announcement of selection (interim enquiries from selected candidates will not be entertained).

2. The selected candidates are requested to get in touch with their guides to find out there mode and time of work after getting the offer letters.

3. No telephone/email enquiries regarding selections, change of guide, etc. will be entertained.

4. For some reason if a selected candidate is not able to accept the fellowship, he/she is requested to send an email to fastsf@ias.ac.in followed by a hard copy of the letter to the Academy. You are also requested to inform the guide about your not being able to accept the fellowship to your guide upon getting the offer letter from us WITHOUT FAIL.
