Online application is invited from Indian national for ‘COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIP TENABLE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM’ for pursuing Master’s & Doctoral degree programme commencing. The Scholarships are offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC), UK for the following Scholarships only:
1. Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships (for low and middle income Commonwealth countries)
2. Commonwealth PhD Scholarships (for low and middle income Commonwealth countries)
The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) is an international programme under which member governments offer scholarships and fellowships to citizens of other Commonwealth countries. The CSFP was established at the first Commonwealth education conference in 1959, and over 26,000 individuals have benefited. Awards in the UK are funded by the Department for International Development, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Department for Education (DFE), in conjunction with UK universities. The CSC also nominates UK citizens for scholarships to study in other Commonwealth countries under the CSFP.
The CSFP is aimed at students of Commonwealth countries who can make a significant contribution to their home country after the completion of a higher education programme in the UK.
Scholarship would be offered under following development themes and the candidates who have taken admission in UK University must apply under one of the themes:
1. Science and technology for development
2. Strengthening health systems and capacity
3. Promoting global prosperity
4. Strengthening global peace, security and governance
5. Strengthening resilience and response to crises

Eligibility Criteria
1. The candidates who have received the offer of admission, from any of the university listed with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission are only eligible to apply. The list of university may be found
2. The applicant must be a permanent resident in India.
3. The applicant must be available to start his/her academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year
4. The applicant must NOT be registered for a PhD, or an MPhil leading to a PhD, at a UK university or India university or elsewhere
5. The applicant must not be able to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship. (Candidates are compulsorily required to sign a declaration that they do not have access to sufficient funds to study in the UK).
6. Candidates who have already been abroad for studies/training/ specialization either on scholarships or on their own, for a period exceeding six months are eligible to apply, if they have been in India for at least two consecutive years
Minimum qualifications
1. For Master’s course. One should have completed or is expected to complete the Bachelor Degree by October, 2019. The academic qualification must have direct and applied relevance to the development theme selected by the candidate.
2. For Ph.D. degree. One should have completed or is expected to complete the Master Degree/Qualifying Exam.The academic qualification must have direct and applied relevance to the development theme selected by the candidate.

Number of nomination: 52 nominations would to be made, out of which 13 nominations would be for PhD.

The CSFP is an annual scheme made available to all the Commonwealth countries by the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission. In India, this is jointly managed by:
1. Commonwealth Scholarships Commission
2. the British Council
3. Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU)
4. Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Selection Process
The preliminary selection of candidates for scholarships is carried out in India by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Department of Education, and Government of India.
The preliminary selection is done through a process of shortlisting of applications, followed by personal interviews in New Delhi.
Selection and nomination
1. The candidates who have received an offer of admission from any participating universities must upload a copy of the same on the Ministry’s portal at the time of online application, failing which their candidature will not be considered.
2. The system would automatically generate the subject/theme wise list of students along with the name of the University.
3. In case, there is more number of students than the available nominations, in that scenario, ranking of the institution as per the ‘QS Ranking’ would be taken to draw the merit list.
