EXAM PATTERN
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Stenographer Examination in two Tiers i.e Tier I and Tier II. While SSC Stenographer Tier I is conducted in Online Mode, on the other hand, Tier II is Stenography Skill Test. Tier- I of the SSC Stenographer Examination will be held as a Computer Based Examination consisting of three sections which are of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions. It will consist of a total of 200 Questions of 200 Marks (1 Mark for each question). Total duration of the examination is 120 minutes and 40 minutes extra with people with benchmark disabilities.
The section-wise distribution of the number of questions and marks are indicated below:

Candidates willing to apply for SSC Stenographer Examination are required to fulfill certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum Educational Qualification, etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities. The criteria for eligibility SSC are decided by the conduction body itself.
The candidate’s eligibility for SSC Stenographer Examination is based on the fulfillment of the following conditions:

A candidate must be either:
A Citizen of India, or,
A subject of Nepal, or,
A subject of Bhutan, or,
A Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 to permanently settle in India or,
A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India, shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4), and (5) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Note: A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the Examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.

A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India, shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4), and (5) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Note: A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the Examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.

Normalization of Marks
The Staff Selection Commission has already decided to normalize the scores of candidates for the examinations which are conducted in multi-shifts to take into account any variation in the difficulty levels of the question papers across different shifts.
The following formula will be used by the Commission to calculate the final score of candidates in the multi-shift examinations:

General Intelligence & Reasoning: Analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series etc.
General Awareness: India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic scene, General Polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research etc.
English Language & Comprehension: Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and its correct usage, etc.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Candidates willing to apply for SSC Stenographer Examination are required to fulfill certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum Educational Qualification, etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities. The criteria for eligibility SSC are decided by the conduction body itself.
The candidate’s eligibility for SSC Stenographer Examination is based on the fulfillment of the following conditions:

A candidate must be either:
A Citizen of India, or,
A subject of Nepal, or,
A subject of Bhutan, or,
A Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 to permanently settle in India or,
A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India, shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4), and (5) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Note: A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the Examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.

Educational Qualification
In order to be eligible for the SSC Stenographer Examination, candidates must have passed the 12th standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.
MODE OF SELECTION
Minimum qualifying marks in Computer Based Examination, are as follows:
(i) UR: 30%
(ii) OBC/EWS: 25%
(iii) All Other Categories: 20%
1. In the online application form, candidate will have to indicate the posts for which they are applying i.e. Stenographer Grade ‘C’ or Stenographer Grade ‘D’ or both.
2. Based on the marks scored in the Computer Based Examination, candidates will be shortlisted, category-wise, to appear in the Skill Test(s) for the post(s) they have applied for.
3. Skill Test is mandatory but qualifying in nature. The Commission will fix category-wise qualifying standards in the Skill Test for each post. The candidates who qualify the Skill Test will be considered for final selection on the basis of their merit in the Computer Based Examination.
4. Final selection and allocation of Ministries/Departments will be made on the basis of the performance of candidates in the Computer Based Examination and the preference of Post(s)/Department(s) exercised by them.
5. If a candidate is finally selected and does not receive any correspondence from the Commission or the concerned User Organization/Office within a period of one year from the declaration of final result, he/she must communicate immediately thereafter with the concerned User Department / Organization.

Educational Qualification
In order to be eligible for the SSC Stenographer Examination, candidates must have passed the 12th standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.
MODE OF SELECTION
Minimum qualifying marks in Computer Based Examination, are as follows:
(i) UR: 30%
(ii) OBC/EWS: 25%
(iii) All Other Categories: 20%
1. In the online application form, candidate will have to indicate the posts for which they are applying i.e. Stenographer Grade ‘C’ or Stenographer Grade ‘D’ or both.
2. Based on the marks scored in the Computer Based Examination, candidates will be shortlisted, category-wise, to appear in the Skill Test(s) for the post(s) they have applied for.
3. Skill Test is mandatory but qualifying in nature. The Commission will fix category-wise qualifying standards in the Skill Test for each post. The candidates who qualify the Skill Test will be considered for final selection on the basis of their merit in the Computer Based Examination.
4. Final selection and allocation of Ministries/Departments will be made on the basis of the performance of candidates in the Computer Based Examination and the preference of Post(s)/Department(s) exercised by them.
5. If a candidate is finally selected and does not receive any correspondence from the Commission or the concerned User Organization/Office within a period of one year from the declaration of final result, he/she must communicate immediately thereafter with the concerned User Department / Organization.
HOW CAN APPLY

Step 4: To begin with the SSC Stenographer Apply Online 2025, a candidate needs to provide basic details of themselves like name, parents' name, date of birth, email id, mobile number, etc.
Step 5: Click on submit button to submit your online registration form for SSC Stenographer 2025. It is advised that candidates verify their details before submitting the form. All the candidates will be issued a Registration ID for SSC Stenographer 2025 exam.
Candidates are required to log in with the provided Registration ID, date of birth, and password to complete registration for SSC Stenographer 2025.
Step 6: In the next step, candidates are required to upload photographs and signatures by following the requisites mentioned by the Staff Selection Commission of India.
The photograph of a candidate must be clicked in front of white color or light-colored background. The size of the photograph must be more than 4 kb and less than 12 kb in size. The resolution of the photograph must be 100*120 pixels in width and height.
The signature provided by the candidate must be in black or blue ink on the white sheet. The scanned copy of the signature that needs to be submitted must be in jpg format and it should be more than 1 kb and less than 12 kb in size. The resolution of the image should be 40*60 pixels in width and height.
Step 7: Log in with a registered ID and password to complete Part- II of the application form for SSC Stenographer 2025.
Step 8: After filling out the application form, candidates must preview the entire application of SSC Stenographer 2025 once to look for any glitches in the form, if any as the application form once submitted cannot be edited again.
Step 9: Click on the Final Submit button after previewing the complete online SSC Stenographer 2025 application form and pay the required application fee.
Application Fee
1. The Application Fee for SSC Stenographer 2025 is Rs. 100/- (for General and OBC).
2. Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Disability (PwD) and Ex-servicemen (ESM) eligible for reservation are exempted from payment of the fee.
