SSC Stenographer is a national level competitive exam conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for the recruitment to the post of Stenographer Grade C and D (Non-Gazetted). Candidates selected through SSC Stenographer recruitment exam will be posted to the various central government departments/ministries as well as their subordinate offices in different states and Union Territories. SSC Stenographer exam will be conducted in Computer-Based Mode.
SSC STENOGRAPHER: EXAM PATTERN
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Stenographer Examination in two Tiers i.e Tier I and Tier II. While SSC Stenographer Tier I is conducted in Online Mode, on the other hand, Tier II is Stenography Skill Test. Tier- I of the SSC Stenographer Examination will be held as a Computer Based Examination consisting of three sections which are of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions. It will consist of a total of 200 Questions of 200 Marks (1 Mark for each question). Total duration of the examination is 120 minutes and 40 minutes extra with people with benchmark disabilities.
Please note- The exam is not separately timed for each section. Candidates who clear the SSC Stenographer CBT (Stage 1) will be called for Skill Test.

Candidates willing to apply for SSC Stenographer Examination are required to fulfill certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum Educational Qualification, etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities. The criteria for eligibility SSC are decided by the conduction body itself.
The candidate’s eligibility for SSC Stenographer Examination is based on the fulfillment of the following conditions:-
1. Nationality
2. Age Limit & Relaxations
3. Educational Qualifications
4. Medical Standards
SSC STENOGRAPHER: NATIONALITY
A candidate must be either:
1. A Citizen of India, or
2. A subject of Nepal, or
3. A subject of Bhutan, or
4. A Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 to permanently settle in India or
5. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India, shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4), and (5) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Note:- A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the Examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.

SSC STENOGRAPHER EXAM
Candidates willing to apply for SSC Stenographer Examination are required to fulfill certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum Educational Qualification, etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities. The criteria for eligibility SSC are decided by the conduction body itself.
The candidate’s eligibility for SSC Stenographer Examination is based on the fulfillment of the following conditions:-
1. Nationality
2. Age Limit & Relaxations
3. Educational Qualifications
4. Medical Standards
SSC STENOGRAPHER: NATIONALITY
A candidate must be either:
1. A Citizen of India, or
2. A subject of Nepal, or
3. A subject of Bhutan, or
4. A Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 to permanently settle in India or
5. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India, shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4), and (5) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Note:- A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the Examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.
SSC STENOGRAPHER: AGE LIMIT & RELAXATIONS
The age limit of the candidates who are applying for SSC Stenographer Grade C and Stenographer Grade D followed by age relaxations for the reserved categories.

SSC STENOGRAPHER EXAM
SSC Stenographer is a national-level competitive exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for the recruitment to the post of Stenographer Grade C and D (Non-Gazetted). Candidates selected through the SSC Stenographer recruitment exam will be posted to the various central government departments/ministries as well as their subordinate offices in different states and Union Territories.

Step 1: Click on the official link for SSC Stenographer which is provided above on this page or Go to the official website of SSC (https://ssc.nic.in/).
Step 2: The registration link for SSC Stenographer 2023 will open up in the new window.
Step 3: Click on the New User/Register Now link.
Step 4: To begin with the SSC Stenographer Apply Online 2023, a candidate needs to provide basic details of themselves like name, parents' name, date of birth, email id, mobile number, etc.
Step 5: Click on submit button to submit your online registration form for SSC Stenographer 2023. It is advised that candidates verify their details before submitting the form. All the candidates will be issued a Registration ID for SSC Stenographer 2023 exam.
Candidates are required to log in with the provided Registration ID, date of birth, and password to complete registration for SSC Stenographer 2023.
Step 6: In the next step, candidates are required to upload photographs and signatures by following the requisites mentioned by the Staff Selection Commission of India.
The photograph of a candidate must be clicked in front of white color or light-colored background. The size of the photograph must be more than 4 kb and less than 12 kb in size. The resolution of the photograph must be 100*120 pixels in width and height.
The signature provided by the candidate must be in black or blue ink on the white sheet. The scanned copy of the signature that needs to be submitted must be in jpg format and it should be more than 1 kb and less than 12 kb in size. The resolution of the image should be 40*60 pixels in width and height.
Step 7: Log in with a registered ID and password to complete Part II of the application form for SSC Stenographer 2023.

SSC Stenographer 2023: Scheme of Exam
1. The SSC Stenographer 2023 examination will be conducted at 2 different levels. The first level is the Grade C and D exam which comprises MCQs and is conducted online. After this exam has been conducted, an exam to test your skill sets in various domains is conducted by SSC.
2. There will be 200 questions from 3 sections; General Awareness, English Language and Comprehension, and General Intelligence and Reasoning.
3. The time duration of the SSC Stenographer Exam is 120 minutes (All sections for 120 minutes).
4. The question paper will be of Objective Type Multiple Choice only. The questions will be set both in English & Hindi.
5. There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Candidates are, therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the questions.
Skill Test
1. The candidates who are shortlisted in the Computer Based Examination will be required to appear in the Skill Test for Stenography. The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as opted by the candidates in the online Application Form) at the speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m.) for the post of Stenographer Grade C and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade D. The matter will have to be transcribed on a computer.
2. Candidates who opt to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment, failing which their probation may not be cleared by appointing departments. Candidates have to work as English/Hindi stenographers as per the functional requirement of the User Office irrespective of the medium of Skill Test of the candidate during the examinations.
3. The Skill Test will be held at the Commission’s Regional Offices or at other Centre(s) as may be decided by the Commission.
4. Detailed instructions, if any, regarding the Skill Test will be provided by the concerned Regional Offices of the Commission to the candidates called for the Skill Test.

General Intelligence & Reasoning
It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal types. The test will include questions on analogies, similarities, and differences, space visualization, problem-solving, analysis, judgment, decision-making, and visual memory.
General Awareness
Questions will be designed to test the abilities of the candidate. general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test the knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person.
English Language & Comprehension
In addition to the testing of candidates' understanding of the English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and its correct usage, etc., his/ her writing ability would also be tested.

SSC Stenographer 2023: Admission to Examination Centres
1. It is mandatory for the candidates to bring at least one ID proof i.e. either an Adhar card, Voter ID, PAN card, Driving License, or ID issued by the Government or the organization where the candidate may be working.
2. Candidates without ID cards shall not be allowed to sit in the examination.
3. Candidates are advised to carry 3 passport-sized photographs of the same photograph that was uploaded/ affixed on the application form.
4. Candidates without photographs will not be allowed to appear in the examination.
5. Candidates are strictly advised to not bring any electronic gadgets inside the examination premises.
6. No candidate is allowed to possess any mode of wireless communication in working or switched-off mode, in the examination venue.
7. In any case, if any candidate is found to practice any unauthorized device in the examination will be debarred immediately from the examination for at least a minimum of 3 years.

RBI Assistant 2023: Mode of Selection
a. Minimum qualifying marks in Computer Based Examination, are as follows:
i. UR: 30%
ii. OBC/EWS: 25%
iii. SC/ST: 20%
b. In the online application form, candidates will have to indicate the posts for which they are applying i.e. Stenographer Grade C or Stenographer Grade D or both.
c. Based on the marks scored in the Computer Based Examination, candidates will be shortlisted, category-wise, to appear in the Skill Test(s) for the post(s) they have applied for.
d. Skill Test is mandatory but qualifying in nature. The Commission will fix category-wise qualifying standards in the Skill Test for each post. The candidates who qualify for the Skill Test will be considered for final selection on the basis of their merit in the Computer Based Examination.
e. Final selection and allocation of Ministries/Departments will be made on the basis of the performance of candidates in the Computer Based Examination and the preference of Post(s)/Department(s) exercised by them.
