SSC STENOGRAPHER EXAMINATION 2025: LATEST UPDATE

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) of India has released the official notification for SSC Stenographer 2025 on 5th June 2025, aiming to fill 1590 vacancies for Grade C and D. The application process will begin on 6th June 2025, and the last date for online applications is 26th June 2025. The Staff Selection Commission will conduct the SSC Stenographer 2025 exam from 6th to 11th August 2025.

OVERVIEW

SSC Stenographer is a national-level competitive exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for the recruitment to the post of Stenographer Grades C and D (Non-Gazetted). Candidates selected through the SSC Stenographer recruitment exam will be posted to the various central government departments/ministries as well as their subordinate offices in different states and Union Territories.

SSC STENOGRAPHER EXAMINATION 2025: LATEST UPDATE

OVERVIEW

EXAM PATTERN

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Stenographer Examination in two Tiers i.e Tier I and Tier II. While SSC Stenographer Tier I is conducted in Online Mode, on the other hand, Tier II is Stenography Skill Test. Tier- I of the SSC Stenographer Examination will be held as a Computer Based Examination consisting of three sections which are of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions. It will consist of a total of 200 Questions of 200 Marks (1 Mark for each question). Total duration of the examination is 120 minutes and 40 minutes extra with people with benchmark disabilities.

Normalization of Marks

The Staff Selection Commission has already decided to normalize the scores of candidates for the examinations which are conducted in multi-shifts to take into account any variation in the difficulty levels of the question papers across different shifts.

OVERVIEW

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates willing to apply for SSC Stenographer Examination are required to fulfill certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum Educational Qualification, etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities. The criteria for eligibility SSC are decided by the conduction body itself.

The candidate’s eligibility for SSC Stenographer Examination is based on the fulfillment of the following conditions:

Nationality.

Age Limit & Relaxations.

Educational Qualifications.

Medical Standards.

Nationality

A candidate must be either:

A Citizen of India, or,

A subject of Nepal, or,

A subject of Bhutan, or,

A Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 to permanently settle in India or,

A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India, shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4), and (5) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

Note: A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the Examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.

The age limit of the candidates who are applying for SSC Stenographer Grade- C & D followed by Age Relaxations for the reserved categories.

OVERVIEW

EXAM ANALYSIS

The SSC Stenographer 2024 paper analysis will be updated shortly after the exam is completed. SSC conducted the SSC - Stenographer 2019 from 22nd to 24th December 2020. Let us have a look at the individual sections and the type of questions asked in the exam. This analysis will help all the candidates who have appeared in the exam or all those aspirants who are going to appear for the exam in the future.

Analysis for 22nd December 2020 (shift- 1)

English Comprehension:

In the English section, many topics were covered and were of various difficulty levels. Most important part of the English section were reading comprehension which covered 15 questions in the paper and 2 cloze test. Rest other topics which were covered were error detection, synonyms - antonyms, direct & indirect speech, jumbled sentences, active - passive voice, idioms, sentence improvement , and few fill - ups which are rarely asked.

In SSC Stenographer Exam 2020, there were 50 questions asked in the General Intelligence and Reasoning sections which were of Easy to Moderate level. Very few questions were of Medium to Hard level. Topics that were covered in general intelligence and Reasoning were a calendar, missing numbers in patterns, paper folding, series, missing pattern, sitting arrangement, coding and decoding, mirror images, judgment - based, Venn diagram and analysis - based.

In the second shift of the same-day paper of English, the most asked questions were from Direct-Indirect / Active - Passive, Error section, Antonym Synonyms, other questions that were asked were fill - ups, idioms & jumbled sentences. Overall the paper was not Difficult and was easy to moderate difficulty.

Educational Qualification

In order to be eligible for the SSC Stenographer Examination, candidates must have passed the 12th standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.

MODE OF SELECTION

Minimum qualifying marks in Computer Based Examination, are as follows:

(i) UR: 30%

(ii) OBC/EWS: 25%

(iii) All Other Categories: 20%

1. In the online application form, candidate will have to indicate the posts for which they are applying i.e. Stenographer Grade ‘C’ or Stenographer Grade ‘D’ or both.

2. Based on the marks scored in the Computer Based Examination, candidates will be shortlisted, category-wise, to appear in the Skill Test(s) for the post(s) they have applied for.

3. Skill Test is mandatory but qualifying in nature. The Commission will fix category-wise qualifying standards in the Skill Test for each post. The candidates who qualify the Skill Test will be considered for final selection on the basis of their merit in the Computer Based Examination.

4. Final selection and allocation of Ministries/Departments will be made on the basis of the performance of candidates in the Computer Based Examination and the preference of Post(s)/Department(s) exercised by them.

5. If a candidate is finally selected and does not receive any correspondence from the Commission or the concerned User Organization/Office within a period of one year from the declaration of final result, he/she must communicate immediately thereafter with the concerned User Department / Organization.

Step 4: To begin with the SSC Stenographer Apply Online 2025, a candidate needs to provide basic details of themselves like name, parents' name, date of birth, email id, mobile number, etc.

Step 5: Click on submit button to submit your online registration form for SSC Stenographer 2025. It is advised that candidates verify their details before submitting the form. All the candidates will be issued a Registration ID for SSC Stenographer 2025 exam.

Candidates are required to log in with the provided Registration ID, date of birth, and password to complete registration for SSC Stenographer 2025.

Step 6: In the next step, candidates are required to upload photographs and signatures by following the requisites mentioned by the Staff Selection Commission of India.

The photograph of a candidate must be clicked in front of white color or light-colored background. The size of the photograph must be more than 4 kb and less than 12 kb in size. The resolution of the photograph must be 100*120 pixels in width and height.

The signature provided by the candidate must be in black or blue ink on the white sheet. The scanned copy of the signature that needs to be submitted must be in jpg format and it should be more than 1 kb and less than 12 kb in size. The resolution of the image should be 40*60 pixels in width and height.

Step 7: Log in with a registered ID and password to complete Part- II of the application form for SSC Stenographer 2025.

ADMIT CARD

The steps to download the admit card for SSC Stenographer is given below:

Step - 1: Log on to the official website of the SSC.

Step- 2: Click on the ‘Admit Card’ tab, and select the particular region chosen while filling out the registration form.

Step-3: Log into the registered account using the date of birth and registration Number / Candidates name or password.

Step-4: SSC Stenographer Admit card will open in PDF format.

Step-5: Verify the details mentioned in the SSC Stenographer hall ticket like name, examination center, registration number, etc.

Step-6: Download SSC Stenographer admit card and take a printout of it for reference in the future.
