Analysis
EXAM ANALYSIS
The Staff Selection Commission conducted the SSC MTS (Multi-Tasking Staff) Tier-I Exam for the 2025 cycle in February 2026. The exam began on 4 February 2026 and continued on multiple dates including 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18 and 19 February 2026 across exam centres nationwide.
The MTS admit card for the 2026 exam was released on 2 February 2026 ahead of the exam start.
This widespread schedule shows SSC’s standard approach of conducting the MTS exam over many days to accommodate the large number of applicants.
Shift Details & Timing Structure
SSC MTS Tier-I 2026 was held in multiple shifts per day. Each shift was 90 minutes long because the paper tests four sections in one session.
The main shift pattern was:
Shift 1: 9 00 AM – 10 30 AM
Shift 2: 12 00 PM – 1 30 PM
Shift 3: 3 00 PM – 4 30 PM
Shift 4: 6 00 PM – 7 30 PM
Reporting times were roughly 90 minutes before the exam start, and entry gates closed around 30 minutes before the exam.
For PwBD candidates with a scribe, the total exam duration was extended to 120 minutes.
SSC MTS Exam Pattern Overview
The Tier-I exam tested four major areas:
Reasoning Ability & Problem Solving
Numerical & Mathematical Ability
General English
General Awareness
There was no negative marking in Session-I of Tier-I for SSC MTS. Session-I was qualifying for sections like reasoning, and Session-II (usually mathematics, English and GK) had negative marking. (based on analysis of pattern; SSC protocol)
The exam is designed to be straightforward but requires speed and accuracy due to the 90-minute time limit.
Difficulty Level in 2026 Exam
According to student feedback and expert exam analysis, the overall difficulty level of the SSC MTS 2026 Tier-I exam was judged to be Easy to Moderate.
Here’s how sections were commonly perceived:
Reasoning Ability: Easy and scoring in most shifts.
General English: Easy with direct questions.
General Awareness: Easy to Moderate but content-heavy in some shifts.
Mathematics: Moderate but calculation-intensive for many candidates.
Good attempt ranges based on feedback from multiple days were:
Reasoning + English + GA + Maths: Around 72 to 79 attempts with good accuracy was considered a safe performance level in easier shifts.
Some shift analyses showed individual timings with varied difficulty:
Early and late shifts often felt easy to moderate, while midday or mid-afternoon shifts were sometimes moderate to difficult due to tricky questions or longer arithmetic sets.
Cut-Off Insights for 2026
Official cut-offs are released by SSC after results, but predicted cut-off ranges based on competition, difficulty level, vacancies and marks trends are as follows:
Expected Category-Wise Cut-Off Range (2026 Predictions)
General (UR): 145 – 147 marks (tentative)
OBC: 135 – 140
SC: 130 – 135
ST: 125 – 130
EWS: 138 – 142
These projections consider the multi-shift nature of the exam, normalization process, and rising competition.
Another estimate (Session II normalized) suggested slightly lower ranges depending on difficulty:
UR: 132 – 138
OBC: 125 – 130
SC: 112 – 118
ST: 105 – 110
EWS: 123 – 128
This accounts for variation in exam level across shifts.
A third prediction based on session-wise analysis showed cut-offs around:
UR ~ 72–78
OBC ~ 68–74
SC ~ 62–68
ST ~ 58–64
but these often reflect raw scores before normalization.
Because SSC uses normalization to adjust marks across shifts, even moderated raw scores can translate into higher final scores.
Overall Analysis & Expectations for 2026 Exam
Based on how the 2025 cycle played out:
SSC MTS 2026 Tier-I is expected to be scheduled between September and November 2026 as per the latest SSC exam calendar trends.
A slot or self-booking system is used where candidates can select their exam date and shift.
The pattern will continue with four shifts daily covering the same four sections.
Difficulty is expected to be Easy to Moderate overall, with Reasoning and English often scoring areas and Maths requiring careful calculation.
Cut-offs will depend on normalization, competition, and the total number of vacancies, which influences final merit scores.
What This Means for Preparation
Focus on all four sections — reasoning, maths, English and general awareness.
Time management is critical due to the 90-minute limit.
Attempt easy questions first and keep accuracy high.
Revision of GA basics and practice of mock tests improves confidence.
Familiarize yourself with shift normalization effects — a moderate score in a tough shift can still result in a strong normalized score.
2023 EXAM ANALYSIS
The Examination for Paper I of SSC MTS 2023 was held from 01-09-2023 The examination was held in First shifts each day. The Examination will be divided into 4 Sections each carrying 25 Questions and 25 Marks. Total time duration for the examination is 90 minutes. The questions in Session I are asked from Numerical and Mathematical Ability Reasoning Ability & Problem-Solving. A total of 40 questions are asked for 120 marks for the exam duration of 45 minutes. The questions in Session II are asked from General Awareness and English Language and Comprehension. A total of 50 questions are asked for 150 marks for the exam duration of 45 minutes.

Study Tips
STUDY TIPS
To prepare well for SSC MTS, you should focus on building strong basics because the paper is mostly easy to moderate but requires speed and accuracy. Start your preparation by understanding the syllabus and giving equal time to all four sections – Maths, Reasoning, General Awareness, and English.
For Maths, practice daily topics like percentage, ratio, average, time and work, and simple interest, as these are frequently asked. In Reasoning, focus on series, analogy, coding-decoding, direction sense, and basic puzzles.
For English, improve vocabulary by learning new words daily and practice grammar topics like error spotting, fill in the blanks, and comprehension passages.
General Awareness can be scoring if you revise static GK (History, Geography, Polity, Science) along with current affairs from the last 6–12 months. Solve previous year papers and take mock tests regularly to improve time management.
Since Session 2 has negative marking, avoid guesswork and attempt only those questions you are confident about. Finally, revise regularly, maintain short notes for quick revision, and stay consistent with daily practice for the best results.
STUDY PLANS
The only deciding factor for the selection or rejection of a candidate is the Strategy & Planning which is used by them for their preparation for the SSC MTS Examination.
