Analysis
EXAM ANALYSIS
Conducted by the Staff Selection Commission
When Was the Last SSC JHT Exam Conducted?
For the 2025 cycle, SSC conducted:
Paper I (Computer Based Test) on 12 August 2025
Paper II (Descriptive Paper) on 14 December 2025
Paper I was conducted in multiple shifts across different centres in India. Each shift had a duration of 2 hours. Exact reporting time and shift timing were mentioned on individual admit cards.
Paper II was conducted in offline descriptive mode after the declaration of Paper I results.
Exam Pattern Overview (Based on 2025 Cycle)
Paper I – Objective (Computer Based)
Paper I consisted of two sections: General Hindi and General English.
There were 200 questions in total for 200 marks.
The duration was 2 hours.
There was negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer.
Marks were normalized because the exam was conducted in multiple shifts.
This paper mainly tested grammar, vocabulary, sentence correction, comprehension, and usage-based language questions in both Hindi and English.
Paper II – Descriptive
Paper II was a descriptive written examination for 200 marks conducted for 2 hours.
This paper focused on:
Translation from Hindi to English
Translation from English to Hindi
Essay writing in Hindi and English
Paper II tested practical translation ability, grammar accuracy, vocabulary depth, and writing clarity. It played a major role in final merit preparation.
Difficulty Level (2025 Trend Analysis)
Paper I Difficulty
The overall difficulty level was moderate to slightly high.
General Hindi required strong grammar command and vocabulary knowledge. Many questions were usage-based rather than direct theory.
General English also required conceptual clarity. Vocabulary, comprehension passages, and grammar correction questions were slightly tricky.
Accuracy was important because of negative marking.
Paper II Difficulty
Paper II was considered more challenging than Paper I.
Translation passages required proper understanding of contextual meaning rather than word-to-word translation.
Essay writing demanded structured presentation, grammar accuracy, and logical flow of ideas.
Candidates with strong language background performed better in this stage.
Cut-Off Trends (2025 Cycle Insight)
In the 2025 cycle, the Tier I cut-off for the General category was around 150 marks. Other categories had proportionately lower cut-offs.
The cut-off remained high because:
Limited vacancies
Moderate difficulty level
High competition among language graduates
Paper II performance then determined the final merit list.
Expectations for SSC JHT 2026
According to the official calendar, SSC JHT 2026 notification is expected in April 2026, and Paper I is likely to be conducted around August–September 2026.
Based on previous trends:
The exam pattern is expected to remain the same
Paper I will likely be moderate in difficulty
Paper II will remain the deciding factor
Cut-offs may remain similar or slightly increase depending on vacancies
Candidates aiming for 2026 should focus equally on both Hindi and English grammar, improve translation practice daily, and work on essay writing skills.
