ELIGIBILITY CRITETRIA

Candidates must have passed Class 12 from a recognized board, be between 18 and 30 years of age (with age relaxations for reserved categories), possess typing skills for certain posts, be medically fit, and fulfill the nationality requirements laid down by Indian Railways.

Nationality

A candidate must be:

1. A citizen of India, or

2. A subject of Nepal, or

3. A subject of Bhutan, or

4. A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement, or

5. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African countries such as Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Candidates belonging to categories 2, 3, 4, and 5 must produce a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India at the time of document verification.

Educational Qualification

For all Railway NTPC Undergraduate level posts, the minimum qualification required is Class 12 (10+2) pass or its equivalent examination from a recognized board. The certificate must be obtained from a recognized board or institution before the last date of application submission. Candidates awaiting results of the qualifying exam are not eligible.

For certain posts where a typing skill is mandatory (such as Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, and Commercial cum Ticket Clerk), the candidate must also have proficiency in computer typing. The required typing speed is a minimum of 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi on a personal computer without the aid of editing tools like spell-check. Age Limit

The prescribed age limit for undergraduate-level posts is:

Minimum age: 18 years

Maximum age: 30 years

The age will be calculated as per the cut-off date mentioned in the official notification of the exam. Candidates must produce valid proof of date of birth such as a 10th class certificate or equivalent document.

Age Relaxation

Railways provide relaxations in the upper age limit for candidates belonging to reserved categories and special groups as per Government of India rules. The details are:

Other Backward Classes (OBC – Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years relaxation, so maximum age is 33 years.

Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST): 5 years relaxation, so maximum age is 35 years.

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD):

General – 10 years

OBC – 13 years

SC/ST – 15 years

Ex-Servicemen: Up to the extent of service rendered in Defence plus 3 years, provided the candidate has put in at least 6 months continuous service.

Widows, Divorced Women, and Women judicially separated from husband but not remarried: Up to 35 years (General), 38 years (OBC), 40 years (SC/ST).

Candidates serving Group C and Group D Railway staff, Casual labour and Substitutes with at least 3 years of service: Up to 40 years (General), 43 years (OBC), 45 years (SC/ST).

Candidates ordinarily domiciled in Jammu & Kashmir during 1.1.1980 to 31.12.1989: 5 years relaxation.

Medical Fitness

Apart from educational and age requirements, candidates must be medically fit as per the standards laid down by Indian Railways for each post. They must pass the prescribed medical test conducted by Railway Administration, which assesses vision, physical fitness, and general health to ensure the candidate can carry out duties of the respective post.

CBT-1 has 100 questions (30 General Awareness, 30 Mathematics, 40 General Intelligence & Reasoning) for 100 marks in 90 minutes, with one-third negative marking. The recruitment process shall involve 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT), 2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT), Typing Skill Test Test (as applicable) and Document Verification/Medical Examination. Selection is made strictly as per merit, on the basis of mentioned recruitment stages. The date, time and venue for all the activities viz. CBTs, Typing Skill Test, Document Verification, Medical Examination or any other additional activity as applicable shall be fixed by the RRBs and shall be intimated to the eligible candidates in due course. Request for postponement of any of the above activity or for change of venue, date and shift will not be entertained under any circumstances.

The examination duration will be 120 Minutes for eligible PwBD candidates accompanied with Scribe.

2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT):

Shortlisting of Candidates for the 2nd Stage CBT shall be based on the normalized marks obtained by them in 1st Stage CBT.

The examination duration and number of questions for 2nd stage CBT are indicated below:

Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST): will be conduct after qualify the 2nd Stage CBT (Only for candidates who have opted for (Account Clerk Cum Typist & Junior Clerk Cum Typist)

Typing Skill Test (TST):

For the posts Account Clerk Cum Typist & Junior Clerk Cum Typist, Typing Skill Test (TST) of qualifying nature (marks obtained in typing skill test shall not be added for making merit) shall be conducted for which the number of candidates equal to 8 times the number of vacancies for each of the community shall be called for. The candidates should be able to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on Personal Computer only without editing tools and spell check facility. For guidelines of those who appear for typing skill test in Hindi, Kruti Dev and Mangal font shall be made available for typing skill test on Personal Computer. Exemption in Typing Skill Test may be extended to candidates who are permanently disabled due to Blindness/Low Vision, Cerebral Palsy & Loco Motor Disability with not less than 40% permanent disability. Such eligible PwBD candidates have to upload a scanned copy of Typing Skill Test Exemption Certificate issued by the Competent Medical Board in the website of respective RRBs before conduct of typing skill test.

Document Verification (DV):

Based on the performance of candidates in the examination candidates equal to the number of vacancies will be called for Document Verification as per their merit and options. In case of two or more candidates securing same marks, their merit position shall be determined by age criteria i.e., older person shall be placed at higher merit and in case age being same, then alphabetical order (A to Z) of the name shall be taken into account to break the tie. Appointment of selected candidates is subject to their passing requisite Medical Fitness Test to be conducted by the Railway Administration, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of antecedents/character of the candidates. Candidates may please note that RRBs only recommend names of the empaneled candidates and appointment is offered ONLY by the respective Railway Administrations.

Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories: UR-40%, EWS- 40%, OBC (Non creamy layer) -30%, SC-30%, ST-25%. These percentages of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2 Marks for PwBD candidates in case of shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.

The CBAT shall have questions and answer options only in English and Hindi. There shall be no negative marking in CBAT.

Typing Skill Test (TST):

For the posts Account Clerk Cum Typist & Junior Clerk Cum Typist, Typing Skill Test (TST) of qualifying nature (marks obtained in typing skill test shall not be added for making merit) shall be conducted for which the number of candidates equal to 8 times the number of vacancies for each of the community shall be called for. The candidates should be able to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on Personal Computer only without editing tools and spell check facility. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates must have passed Class 12 or its equivalent from a recognized board. The minimum age is 18 years and the maximum is 30 years, with relaxations for reserved categories as per government rules.

Nationality / Citizenship

A candidate applying for the exam must be either – 

(i) a Citizen of India or 

(ii) a subject of Nepal or 

(iii) a subject of Bhutan or 

(iv) a Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or 

(v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) & (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

Under Graduate Posts with Minimum Educational Qualification of 12th (+2 Stage) or its equivalent examination and Age between 18 to 33* Years.

The lower and upper age limit indicated for the post(s) in the Vacancy Table will be reckoned.

For 7th CPC Level 2 and 3 (Under Graduate level Posts), the Date of Birth of candidates should be between the dates given below (both dates inclusive):

ii. Candidates belonging to community/ categories shall be eligible for age relaxation as applicable. However, the relaxation in upper age limit / maximum upper age for the following categories/communities is given as indicated in the table below subject to submission of requisite certificates.

Relaxation of Upper age limit

NOTE:

1. Relaxation of 3 years in age beyond the prescribed age limit as a onetime measure due to the Covid-19 pandemic to be added in above maximum age limit.

2. No age relaxation is allowed to SC/ST/OBC-NCL (Non- Creamy Layer) candidates applying against unreserved vacancies.

3. PwBD candidates applying against UR vacancies will be allowed age relaxation applicable for UR PwBD only.

4. If a candidate is eligible for relaxation of age on more than one ground, he/she would be accorded the highest of the age relaxations for which he/she is eligible.

5. Candidates should note that the date of birth filled in this application should be same as recorded in the Matriculation/SSLC/Xth Class or an equivalent certificate. No subsequent request for its change will be considered.

Essential Educational Qualifications

SELECTION PROCESS

There shall be two stage Computer Based Test (CBTs) followed by “Computer based Typing Skill Test (TST) wherever applicable”

1. Typing Skill Test for Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Junior Clerk cum Typist.

2. Subsequently, there will be document verification and medical examination.

3. For Commercial cum Ticket Clerk and Trains Clerk there shall be two stage CBT followed by document verification and medical examination.

Short Listing for Various Stages:

1. RRB wise short listing of candidates for 2 nd Stage CBT shall be done at the rate of 15 times the vacancies

2. The short listing for Computer Based Typing Skill Test shall be to the extent of 8 times the vacancies (may increase or decrease as per the requirement of Railway Administration) based on the merit of the candidates in 2nd Stage CBT. When a candidate is qualified in 1st stage CBT & shortlisted for subsequent stages as OBC/SC/ST/EWS/PwBD he/she will continue to be considered as OBC/SC/ST/EWS/PwBD respectively in all subsequent stages.
