EXAM PATTERN
The RBI Assistant Exam Pattern is published annually alongside the official notification. Understanding the complete exam pattern is essential for scoring well in the examination. Candidates must first appear for the RBI Assistant Prelims Exam, which serves as the screening stage to shortlist candidates for the Mains Exam.
RBI Assistant Preliminary Examination is a Computer Based Test which comprises three sections of a total of 100 Questions and 100 marks. The time duration for each section is 20 minutes and for the overall test is 60 minutes. For candidates using the Scribe facility, the total time duration is 80 minutes.
The section-wise distribution of Questions and Marks is given below :-

2. Questions from English Language section shall be available in English only.
3. Candidates need to choose the language of the question paper they want to attempt before the commencement of exam.
4. However, candidates will be allowed to change the language of the particular question also
Marking Scheme
1. One mark is given for every correct answer
2. There is a negative marking for the wrong answer. 0.25 or 1/4th marks are deducted for each wrong answer.
3. There are no marks deducting for any question skipped by the candidate.
Normalization of Score
The Reserve Bank of India makes use of the approach of Normalization to transform all marks right into a standardized layout to make it fair for all applicants appearing for the exam
Following is the formula to calculate the Normalized Marks of the candidates in RBI Assistant Exam.

NOTE 1. The corrected scores obtained by each of the candidates in different sessions (if held) will be normalized using the Equipercentile method.

Candidates willing to apply for RBI ASSISTANT Examination are required to fulfill certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum educational qualification, etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities. The candidate’s eligibility for RBI ASSISTANT Examination is based on the fulfillment of the following conditions:-
1. Nationality
2. Age Limit & Relaxations
3. Educational Qualifications
Nationality
i. a citizen of India, or
ii. a subject of Nepal, or
iii. a subject of Bhutan, or
iv. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
v. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination, but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate is issued to him/ her by the Government of India.
Age Limit
Between 20 and 28 years.
Relaxations of Upper Age Limit
Upper age limit will be relaxed as under:

Education Qualification
1. At least a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks (pass class for SC/ST/PWD candidates) in the aggregate and the knowledge of word processing on PC.
2. A candidate belonging to the Ex-servicemen category (except dependents of ex-servicemen) should either be a graduate from a recognized University or should have passed the matriculation or its equivalent examination of the Armed Forces and rendered at least 15 years of defense service.
3. Candidates applying for a post in a particular recruiting office should be proficient in the language (i.e. know to read, write, speak and understand the language) of the state/ any of the states falling under the recruiting office.
NOTE :-
1. The date of passing eligibility will be the date appearing on the mark-sheet or provisional certificate issued by the University/ Institute. In case the result of a particular examination is posted on the website of the University/ Institute, a certificate issued by the appropriate authority of the University/ Institute indicating the date on which the result was posted on the website will be taken as the date of passing.
2. Candidate should indicate the percentage obtained in Graduation calculated to the nearest two decimals in the online application. Where CGPA/OGPA is awarded, the same should be converted into percentage and indicated in online application. If called for document verification, the candidate will have to produce a certificate issued by the appropriate authority inter alia stating the norms of the University regarding conversion of grade into percentage and the percentage of marks by the candidates in terms of norms.
3. Calculation of Percentage: The percentage marks shall be arrived at by dividing the total marks obtained by the candidate in all the subjects in all the semester(s)/year(s) by aggregating maximum marks in all the subjects irrespective of honors / optional / additional optional subject, if any. This will be applicable for those Universities also where Class/Grade is decided on the basis of Honors marks only. The fraction of percentage so arrived will be ignored i.e. 49.99% will be treated as less than 50%.

IMPORTANT DATES
The RBI Assistant 2026 preliminary exam is tentatively scheduled for April 11, 2026, with the main exam expected on June 07, 2026. The application process began on February 16, 2026, and closes on March 08, 2026. The exam aims to fill 650 vacancies for the Assistant position.

Online applications are now open and will continue till 8 March 2026 (both dates inclusive) on the official website www.rbi.org.in. The selection will be through Preliminary Exam ( On 11 April 2026 ) and Main Exam ( On 7 June 2026 ),

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Assistant Exam 2026 notification was officially released on 16 February 2026, with the online application process also starting the same day.
